I am going to the Chicago shows. I have mail order commemorative tickets that are letter envelope sized with some amazing art work on the front of each ticket. I would like to keep the tickets and keep them in pristine condition. If I use them for entry, keeping them pristine much less keeping them at all is highly unlikely. It is a Dead show after all. Things happen. [more inside]
Two months ago I went to a new doctor for my yearly physical at the recommendation of a friend. I've talked with my insurance provider before and they said that an annual physical is covered and should cost me approximately nothing. So I was surprised when I later got a bill for several hundred dollars. The root of the problem seems to be that the doctor classified everything as diagnostic rather than preventative. My insurance has said they can't do anything unless he contacts them and changes the classification. I have called and emailed the doctor's office multiple times to clear up the issue, but they have done nothing and I am still getting bill reminders for several hundred dollars. What additional action can I take, legal or otherwise, to force this doctor to fix his mistake?

Last year on 12/11/13 we had to take my mother-in-law to the closest ER which happened to be a hospital that had just opened under new company/management (had been closed for almost a year until new company took over). I provided her Medicare Part A and B card and her AARP Medicare Supplement Card at the time we took her in. The intake person made copies of both cards and said nothing about the insurance coverage what so ever. [more inside]

I moved into my new apartment on Sept 1st. Today, I received a "shut off notice" from the gas company (National Grid in Boston) stating that my unit has an unpaid balance of over $100 as of 8/29, and that the account will be going to collections. This is my first apartment - what should I do, AskMefi? Pay down the balance? Inform my landlord?

I was thinking last night that I would would like to start being cooler. One way I have came up with is by using some really cool parting words when leaving work or groups of friends (hopefully I can get some with this new "cool" plan). Some phrases that I came up with were "Stay gold Ponyboy" and "Be Excellent to each other". Now wouldn't I be cool? But that won't get me very far down the road. What are some other awesome Pop Culture phrases I can use to leave a cool impression on people?

A bill collector is willing to settle a disputed outstanding bill I have. They are offering a reduced settlement. Is there a way to insure that they will call this bill settled and not try to charge me more than the agreed upon amount and keep the experience off my credit history? Does anyone in the hive have any similar experiences with this sort of settlement?
In the late 1990's on the Oprah Winfrey show, there was a brief piece on a song that reached the low end of the R&B charts. Sonically it was pretty traditional soul music, but the twist was that it was a cheating song, but the female singer catches her man cheating with another man, named "Bill," which was the title of the song, IIRC. If anyone can provide me with the singers name that'd be great. Bonus points for an mp3 or youtube link.

I had a routine ladyparts exam a few months ago. It qualified as "preventive care" and I didn't have to pay a copay. (Yay! Thank you, ACA!) I got a rundown of what they charged my insurance a month or two ago -- one of those THIS IS NOT A BILL things -- and promptly lost/forgot about it, since I owed nothing. Today I got a check, made out to me, from the doctor's office for a couple hundred bucks. Do I get to keep it? [more inside]

I received a letter yesterday from a collection agency: I was late in paying a bill for a $10 copay. I actually did put a check in the mail for what I think is this same bill last week, but it looks like it was too late and they've turned it over to this agency. It's only $10, so I'm not worried about paying it (or even paying it twice). What I am worried about is my credit score. The letter says "This account will be reported to the credit bureau in 45 days if not paid in full." Does that mean that if I pay the bill quickly, it won't affect my credit score? Or will paying the $10 somehow be admitting that I deserved to have it turned over to a collection agency? Would it would be better to call the original company and ask them if they received my check and whether they can call off the dogs? Basically, what I want to know is: Is there any downside to paying this $10 bill? And is there anything else that I should be doing to make sure that my credit is affected as little as possible?
