What are some cities/neighborhoods to live in that are bike commutable (<45 minutes) to 24th and Olympic in Santa Monica? Are there any specific trails or routes I should be paying attention when hunting for housing? Any specific intersections to be avoided?

Cheap men's synthetic underwear: nylon/spandex/polyester/etc. Would like approx 12 pair for bicycling. Flexible on style/aesthetics. Priority:
inexpensive.

I'd like to put some slick (or semi-slick) tires on my mountain bike. What would be a good choice? My biggest requirement is that they'd be pretty easy to install. Second requirement would be cost. I'd rather not spend 50 bucks a wheel.

I just got into road cycling this year. I bought a bike in February, and have been ramping up in miles and pace since then. I just did a metric century (actually ~67 miles) a few weeks ago, my longest ride yet, and it killed my left knee. With this in mind, how do I keep up my progress in the off-season and return harder better faster stronger? What else can I do to move up a division for next year? (Also-- your thoughts on trainer versus stationary exercise bike: give me them.)

Can the hive mind recommend a good road cycling group in San Francisco? I'm looking for a recreational (but serious) cycling group that has sociable members preferably in their mid 20s to early 30s.

In the late 80s there was a Pinarello Bicycles ad that was a horizontal banner at the top of the page in Bicycling magazine. It was a long distance shot of a single cyclist riding over some rolling hills, and the text said: "Pinarello...Alone." I loved it. I'm pretty sure it was produced as a poster as well, and I'd love to find it.
