What happens psychologically to people who fight or confront bigotry for longer periods of time? Are there any studies about depression, PTSD or self-esteem issues? How do anti bigotry/discrimination organizations help their members with these problems?

I have a problem with my little sister's baby daddy. He's racist, bigoted, irresponsible, and I can see that he's a bad person for my sister and their child. It's driving me crazy, and being around him is breaking my heart. What can/should I do? Warning: some derogatory language within.

I'm dealing with the fallout from coming out to my deeply religious immediate family. For years, I had prepared for their tears, their anger, their remonstrances, their appeals to the Bible, and all of those have come. What I hadn't prepared for was how disappointed I would be, and how fundamental and lonely that disappointment would be. Help?

Last fall, I met for the first time a Rwandan woman who was in the U.S. for work, and I made a really unfortunate culturally/racially/ethnically charged remark. I've been kicking myself ever since, but I never had a chance to do anything to remedy the situation because I haven't seen her again since. Now, more than six months later, I will be seeing her again. How should I handle this?

I've noticed a significant amount of bigotry emerging in my thinking. To be more specific, I find myself being irritated by people from a certain group and I find myself blaming their irritating-ness on their ethnicity. (Which ethnicity? I'd rather not say and I don't think it matters.) Any suggestions on how to nip this in the bud? Books?
Healing your Inner Bigot? For the record, I don't think my perception is accurate. The thoughts persist though and are emerging more often to my dismay.
