Where on the web to post non-coding projects/requests in for bidding?

outsourcingfilter: Where on the web to post non-coding projects/requests in for bidding? For outsourcing programming/web/coding projects, there are many sites to submit your requests in for others to bid on. Then there is Etsy Alchemy for handmade goods and crafts.

What about custom graphics? Where would I go (besides Craigslist) if I want a custom vector logo done?

What about engineering? Where would I go if I want a custom lawnmower robot made?

Those are the two main fields I'm looking for answers to, what about projects for other fields?

Looking for sites where you can post a project for others to bid on.

Where to find freelance web work online?

I'm a web developer and have been working the same job for 9 years. Recently, due to challenging economic circumstances, I've decided to start looking for freelance work to supplement my income, if not replace it. Are you a freelance web developer or designer? If so, where do you go to find work online? I've had some success with local Craigslist listings, and I'm continuing to look there, but the volume of ads is quite low at the moment (I'm in Detroit, you see. Yes, I know I'd do better elsewhere).

I'm aware of GetAFreelancer.com, but it seems like almost all the listings there are highly unrealistic in terms of both price and scope. "I want someone to build me a site like Youtube.com. I have a budget of $75 and it needs to be done by Saturday" is typical of the ads I've seen there.

I'm also aware of AuthenticJobs, Sitepoint's Marketplace, and of course Metafilter Jobs. Those places tend to have much higher quality listings, but they are few in number and the competition for them is fierce.

I've heard about Guru.com and Elance.com. I've yet to try them, but I'm afraid they'll be a lot like getafreelancer.com. What experience have you had with them?

I've read some of the older Metafilter questions that are similar to this one, but I wonder if the answer might be different in 2009.

How can I find work using the internet? Are there any other online sources I should look into?

Thank you for your help!

Why do people bid on eBay in this way?

I have a question about bidding on eBay. Take a look at the bid history for this crazy auction to get a place on UK TV's Big Brother programme. Why are some bidders such as ceo_of_crazy_thursdays, puppy_sandwich and robthecricketer posting multiple bids in a row which often add thousands onto the price? Why not post just one big bid? Even stranger, why put up the price so much with sucessive bids before waiting to see who outbids you? The actions of these people appear to only serve to help the seller as it'll massivily boost the final price - so is this some sort of scam?

Does eBay keep winning bids secret?

Outbid on eBay in the last 20 seconds. Does eBay hold winning bids in secret? I held the highest bid on an eBay item until the last 20 seconds of the auction. My "willing to pay" amount easily covered the current high bid by several hundred dollars. Yet, at the 20-second mark, I get outbid by just enough to lose. When I tried to re-enter a higher bid, with at least 10 seconds to go, I was told the auction had ended. (I had at least 10 seconds at the 2nd bid confirm screen).

Did someone really just enter an amount possibly $500+ above the current price in the last 20 seconds of the auction, or did eBay have this person's higher bid already recorded, and just sprung it on me at the last moment?

Is there any reason why my new bid wasn't accepted with 10 seconds remaining? Would I have any recourse?

For those who snipe on ebay, what software/plugin/service/whatever would you recommend? I feel uncomfortable giving a third party my ebay login info, if that's how these services work.
