I am a cyclist in NSW, Australia. At the intersection in this image, I am not sure what I am legally supposed to do (or what my best option is if the legal one is not safe, which I think might be the case). The red line represents off-road cycle paths separate from the pedestrian footpath. I am trying to get from where the first red line (left) ends to where the second one starts (right). Can anyone tell me what I should do? Or who do I contact to find out (or to lobby to improve the intersection for cyclists) - the local council? [more inside]
Our family is vacationing in Montana next week, and I have rented a road bike for a couple of days. I intend to ride west to east up a part of Going-To-The-Sun Road, and wonder if anyone else has experience. I am SUPER excited about it, but also nervous. [more inside]
I'm entering the era of modern bicycles and want to sell my "vintage" road bike. I'm unsure how to price it, and where to try selling it. [more inside]
On January 15th of this year I emailed a custom bike builder to enquire about him building me a custom track bike. I was told his current lead time was 8 - 10 weeks. Two days later, on the 17th, I stopped by his shop and ordered the bike and paid a $1000 deposit. It's now been over 17 weeks and I have not received the bike. [more inside]
I'm going to NYC June 23 to July 7 and need a bicycle for that period. Last time I rented one on Spinlister, which worked great, but still cost $250-ish. I wonder if it's worth buying a 2nd hand ride and reselling it on the last day. If so, where? [more inside]
My girlfriend needs a new bike, but her specifications don't seem to exist in our particular reality. Help us find something that she can sit on comfortably and still keep up? [more inside]
I've been looking for interesting vintage-ish hardtail mountain bike frames, and found an ad on Craigslist for an aluminum MTB purportedly built by Colin Laing. Laing is known as a master steelworker who traditionally built beautifully-lugged track and road bikes in England and Arizona, so my hackles have been raised. It would certainly be a unique bike were it built by him. Would you be so well-informed as to confirm or deny the plausibility that this is a Neat Bike? [more inside]
I'm thinking that, for my next bike, I'd like to buy a frameset and have it built up. I've never done this before. What should I know? [more inside]
I'm really into this bike. I'm looking for a bike that works for touring and also for cyclocross. I understand the geometry isn't ideal for cyclocross racing per se, but I feel like this sort of geo is the best middle ground I've seen. My issue is I'm not super into supporting Specialized. I don't like some of their business decisions and I'm more into supporting smaller, American made companies. So, any recommendations?
I have a new commute that is hilly and mostly off-road, instead of my previous flat all paved one. I don't think my Dutch bike is suited to this, but I LOOOOOOOVE it so much. I never really enjoyed cycling before I got it. Is there a better suited bike that will make me equally happy? [more inside]
I stupidly and embarrassingly crashed my road bike after riding 6 feet from my house. Won't get into how I managed that, but the front wheel was warped out of true just a tiny bit. Didn't notice until half way thru my ride when I felt it when braking. I'm going to get it fixed Monday but would like to ride tomorrow (Sunday). Would it be unsafe or stupid to ride with a slightly tweaked wheel?
Where should I take my bike in Brooklyn (preferably near Downtown/Cobble Hill/Carroll Gardens) for a tune-up? [more inside]
I'm looking to buy a custom touring bike and I'd really like to buy locally. Can can anyone recommend any frame fabricators in the immediate San Francisco Bay Area that make really great/beautiful touring frames? Some builders that do work outside of SF that I really love are Vanilla, Geekhouse, Breadwinner, Icarus, All-City, Map, Cycles d’Autremont. I just love the idea of buying locally and supporting a local frame builder and also would appreciate better being able to contact/visit the builder. thanks!
Our family of four will be flying to Vancouver, BC, soon to visit my brother and his family. One of the things we'd like to do, if it makes sense, is bring along our daughter's 20" mountain bike to give to his kids. [more inside]
For a long time I've thought that it would be a fun project to put together an electric bicycle. However I've been stymied by the cost and questionable quality of the existing kits, and the complications and compromises of the various DIY methods that are out there online. I have some ideas for how to go about making a cheap and simple electric bike, but I'll be the first to admit that I'm nobody's idea of an engineer so I thought I'd run some things by y'all and see what insights you have. I've been thinking for a while about getting another bike. I have one bike that I like very much, but it's not as comfortable as I'd like for longer rides and so I tend not to ride as often as I otherwise might. I'm looking for a more relaxed and comfortable bike that will get me out on the road more often without too much sacrifice in speed. Requirements inside, recommendations appreciated. [more inside]
I'm a bicycle n00b who wants to get into riding mountain bikes, and I'm baffled at all the options. I need some pointers on what brands, models, and features to look for in an all-mountain bike. I'm planning on riding places in the Seattle area like Duthie, Tiger Mountain, etc. [more inside]
After many years of riding single-speed cruisers with coaster brakes, I'm upgrading to a hybrid road bike. What do I need to know? [more inside]
I'm planning a cycling trip to San Francisco to the Pigeon Point Lighthouse in Pescadero in July. I think I have a pretty good idea of how to get there by just following Highway 1, but I'm not sure how to get back. Instead of going back the way I came, I'd like to ride from Pescadero over the Santa Cruz mountains to Silicon Valley and catch the CalTrain into the city. Can anyone suggest a route? The shorter the better, so the station is not important! I know it'll be a climb.
I am looking to buy a bike for basic getting-around-the-city purposes and I'd like to better understand the relative advantages of "hybrid" type bikes and "Dutch/upright" type bikes. [more inside]
I want to commute by bike to my job and bike on the weekends as a way to enjoy myself and get in shape outside but am overwhelmed by all the choices out there. I am plus-sized and want to be somewhat comfortable biking for an hour a day. Not sure if a larger seat will solve my problems? Is a mountain bike the answer because it has shocks? What components would you recommend that will make a new bike work for me. I'm a thirty-something with no health problems, just a lot of weight to carry. [more inside]

Please suggest bike routes in New England that meet some specific criteria. We took our son on a section of the East Bay Bike Path near Providence for his first bike ride last week and he loved it. He sits in an iBert on Mom's bike. We are looking for similar routes. In looking for similar I articulate what specifically I think is good about this path for us in the extended explanation. We can ride weekdays in addition to weekends. Thanks. [more inside]

We are going to DC this weekend through Tuesday.and would like to know how Bike friendly it is in the Central area of the city. We will be staying close to the convention center and are considering biking around to the attractions from there. Easy peasy? or watch out?
I just bought a bike yesterday and although I thought it fit okay at the store and riding it around a half-block, after I rode it home for two miles, I found it a bit uncomfortable. So I'm trying to figure out if the bike is indeed too big for me, and what I can do about it since the store's policy is that all bike sales are final. [more inside]

I'm looking to buy a bike, but I find myself paralyzed by the large number of choices available. I'd like to get a Hybrid bike to do some recreational riding around my neighborhood, in the park, and on local trails and bike paths. I'm looking to replace my '70s vintage Schwinn 3-speed cruiser with a lightweight bike that would be more conducive to longer rides. It's an adorable bike and it has served me well, but I live in a walk-up building and schlepping it up and down the stairs is downright painful, and doesn't exactly make me want to take her out for a spin on a whim. My wife wants to know if there are any groups in the New York City area that involve school-age children and bicycle mechanics. The point of the question is we have an old Dyno Mooneyes cruiser bike in great shape with a broken rear fender -- it would actually have to be welded to be reconnected. We'd like to donate it, and she thinks some kids might get a kick out of fixing it up, especially if they're into low-rider or other fancy-pants souped-up types of bike. (It's heavy, so she's not into the idea of shipping it anywhere. We're in Westchester.) Thoughts? Suggestions? Recommendations?
