Oxide + Bicycle: ???

I washed my bicycle and foolishly left it to dry in the sun. Now, the exposed metal has started to oxidize. Is there anything I can do? I know it's still dirty, I haven't finished yet.

How much to spend on a used bike?

My bicycle was recently stolen, and I need one for my 5-mile (each way) daily work commute. I went to a local used bike shop (I'm in Portland, OR), and the cheapest was an awesome vintage Trek for $550, including tune-up. Seems like too much for a bicycle. How much should I realistically expect to spend on a decent road bike? [more inside]

How can I keep my bike while riding the bus?

I've been doing a combo bike/bus commute on LA Metro for about a month now, and I find myself obsessing about how easy it would be for someone to steal my bike off the rack mounted on the front of the bus with no one being the wiser. Is there something I could do/use to at least make thieving my bike a little more inconvenient, yet not add much to the time it takes ME to get it off the rack? On reread, sort of self-defeating I guess - any ideas at all?

Is a folding bicycle right for a train commute in Chicago?

This is actually a two part question. First, can anybody recommend a folding bicycle? I'm going to need to travel from a train to my work and it's about 2 miles. Would you recommend one of these bicycles for this kind of commute? How do they hold up in the rain and when it gets cold? Is there anything I can do about water flying up from the front and rear wheels? 2nd, does anybody know if you can buy a monthly Metra pass that will allow you to transfer between two Metra lines? I'm looking for a folding bicycle trailer.
