I'm taking a trip to Seattle & Vancouver for an extended weekend. For these places, I'd really appreciate some info on: (1) where to get good coffee in the morning, (2) recommended pubs / microbrews to hit at lunch, and (3) atmospheric watering holes to finish up the evenings. [more inside]

I have a recipe for beer bread that I found in an old Junior League cookbook that has become a staple at our house, but I'd like to try other recipes and variations on the theme. Does anyone have a fairly simple, delicious beer bread recipe? Either quick bread or yeast bread? Many thanks!

If we wanted to start a pub crawl in philly right about now, where would you recommend we go?
Starting us anywhere the R6 lets off would be swell.
Cheap beer = awesome.

What has been your own personal experience
with strictly moderate alcohol consumption (1-2 drinks/night) when engaged in any kind of weight loss regimen you've done? Did it have any noticeable effect on your mood, outlook, and progress? Better yet, what changes did you notice cutting out drinking or adding it back in? (please no crusading or mere speculation, thanks)

Where can I buy Emu Bitter beer in the US? It's made by Nathan Lion, the same brewery that makes Steinlager. I'm willing to drive anywhere in AZ, NH, or NE, although I would prefer mail order delivery. [more inside]

In spite of years of hearing people say that establishment X has watered-down beer, and years too of tasting beer that tastes, well, watered down, I don't know if this is anything other than a folk interpretation of the effects of dirty delivery systems. If pubs, clubs, and bars do water down their beer, how do they do it? [more inside]

Any relevant info helpful. [more inside]

There are two beverages that nearly every American adult seems to like, but I dislike both: coffee and beer. I would like to develop a taste for both of them. For morning caffeine, coffee's free at most workplaces whereas pop isn't; and beer is a cheap mood alterer; but more importantly, both are social lubricants, one that isn't achieved by drinking a soda while others get either awake, buzzed or drunk. It's been a while since I had either, but remembering the tastes, I think it's that I dislike the bitterness in each drink. [more inside]

I'll be spending 5 days in Palo Alto next week, and I'm looking for good beer. Specifically, I want to find a carry-out shop where I can pick up a few bottles of Russian River and other good local brews. I'll be staying on El Camino Real and will have very limited access to a car. Bonus points for any good brew pubs in the area too. Thanks!

I live in the NYC area and bought a six-pack of Saranac from the local shop. One of the bottles has a Brooklyn brewery cap on it instead of the Saranac cap. Are the two beers bottled in the same plant? Should I worry about tampering? The store is reputable and I've never had any trouble with anything from there in 3 years.

What is the difference between wheat free and gluten free? I know it has something to do with proteins--I'm finding a lot of stuff about the gluten side but not a lot about just the wheat. More importantly, if someone is allergic to wheat but not gluten, can she drink non-wheat beer, like Budweiser?

I'm planning a wedding rehearsal dinner for about 100 guests. Besides the usual wine service I'd like to do something different and do a beer pairing menu. There are four courses total, but guests have multiple options for each course. I think the logistics of serving will limit us to one beer (about 6 oz) per course regardless of food selection, which is the tricky part. [more inside]

I'll be attending a Tigers baseball game tonight at Comerica Park in downtown Detroit and I'm sick of drinking crappy beer. Does anyone know if there are any vendors in the park that sell beer with flavor? If so, where are they? I'm looking for something inside the park that I can buy and take back to my seat. Even a Sam Adams will work, pretty much anything but the usual Bud, Miller, or Labatt's.
