Is there a fast and discreet way to defizz beer?

Say like you (me) are going out to a nice restaurant with friends and you would like to order a glass of beer instead of the usual red wine.....but you know it will bring on a painful gas attack due to the fizz. Is there a fast, discreet way to get those bubbles out of your glass? Salt? A pinch of baking soda? Thanks.

What kind of wine might a beer drinker like?

Due to medical reasons, I can no longer drink carbonated beverages, including beer. So what kind of wine might quench my thirst after a long day at the lake? Any other suggestions like hard cider or lemonade that isn't carbonated? Margaritas obviously, but what else? I typically enjoy good old Bud Light so something along those lines.

What used to be an ok amount of alcohol now is not. Help!

I've been through a lot of changes lately and one of them has been losing 40 lbs. I love beer and socializing. And another change is being more social and putting myself out there. But the combination of eating less and weighing less has put a dent in my ability to deal with alcohol. I end up slightly more drunk and a lot more hungover How do I continue to enjoy the things I love without it affecting me so much? [more inside]

Where to get beer I like in Italy?

So what are some good beer makers for me to look out for in Italy, and what particular bars or restaurants have good beer selections in Rome and Venice? My preferred styles are IPA, Belgian ales, stout; but anything that has some depth of flavor is good, especially if it is rooted in local/regional brewing traditions. Just not flavorless lager! Beaver-related bar/brewery near Corvallis, Oregon?

I once had a pint glass that a roommate left behind when moving out. It was a regular 16-oz pint glass, with a drawing of a beaver and the tagline "Where Beavers Go to Eat and Drink." Beer while working on my laptop? Difficulty level: PA liquor law

Where can I go in Philadelphia to get a beer to enjoy while working on my laptop? Strict quiet isn't required, but reasonably reliable wifi is a must. I'd be equally happy with a coffee shop that serves beer or a bar where laptop use wouldn't be weird. Outlets aren't necessary. [more inside]

Miss Spiteful and Pipeworks brewing in Chicago, how can I ship them?

I moved to the Bay Area a year ago and have no complaints about the weather thus far. On the other hand I really miss the Chicago breweries that aren't available in stores out here. Midwest US to UK beer arbitrage

My wife wants to bring an American craft beer to a former colleague who is primarily a real ale drinker in the UK. He is pretty game to try anything (and is more of a hophead than I am) and we would like to get him something he can't get there and that is a bit different (so no American Belgians for instance) but also worth the hassle. What should we get? We are in Chicago and probably have to get it from Binnys.

Another Queens/NYC bar/restaurant question

I need a bar or restaurant for a small group on Sunday. One of our group however, is my puppy. Another requirement is that it is near the N train, or a quick transfer from the N train on this Sunday (are they still randomly shutting down the 7 train over the weekend?). Beyond that, it's not too picky. I know about the Bohemian Beer Garden, but I am not sure that they allow pets. Sidewalk cafes, anything outdoors should be great.

Where can I fill my growler near Pasadena?

Unfortunately, I just got off the phone with Stone Brewery in Pasadena and they won't fill my growler because it's a plastic screw top (must be a flip top) and because it has a different companies logo on it (though they said I could scrape it off, which I don't mind). Best beer-related activity or event in Portland, Oregon?

I'm heading to Portland in July (hooray!) and am already ecstatically excited about all the awesome things there are to indulge in (kind of feel like this city is where I was supposed to live - too bad I live many timezones away). The town is overrun with amazing breweries and my partner who is joining me is a massive beer geek. We're already planning on visting as many breweries as we can and the Oregon Brewfest is on while we're there (double hooray!). However, I'd like to surprise him with the best beer related activity, event, or venue Portland has to offer (which is also acting as a consolation prize as I nixed the idea of staying at the Bed 'n' Beer in Newport). Ideas, suggestions, advice? I know there are a lot of Portland Mefites with wonderful taste - so I'd love any help! [more inside]

Things to do in Denver when it's cold?

Besides skiing, of course. I think myself and Ms Jo will be in Denver area for 4 days or so within the next two weeks. We may ski one day, but prefer just being out of doors and walking and hiking.
