Dreams of Linen

I've just found out that linen sheets are a thing. It's my birthday soon, and I'm considering doing the most self-indulgent thing that I've ever done and buy a set. I've seen this previously, but was hoping that there might be more answers now, four years on. [more inside]

Sorry, IKEA, it's not you, it's me.. at least where bedding is concerned

We have a glorious bed and mattress. We have a fantastic duvet cover and sheets. We do NOT have a fabulous duvet insert comforter or pillows -- they're currently IKEA ones that are just not doing it for us anymore. What on earth do we replace them with? MeFi, HELP US SLEEP BETTER! I need recommendations for down-alternative pillows and a duvet-insert for a king-sized bed. [more inside]

Adulting challenge: Picking a duvet cover

My wife and I have been putting off buying a new duvet cover for over a year because reasons. Our current one is just getting gross and is well over a decade old. This is to cover a mid weight queen size down comforter. Willing to pay for quality, as this one is probably going to be on daily duty for a decade or more. No fleece, and needs to be machine wash and dry friendly.

Find me a heavy, warm blanket.

Please recommend to me your favorite heavy, warm blanket! I've realized that I like sleeping under something pretty heavyweight, and while I love my down duvet, it's not really doing the trick. I don't think I need something that's specifically a weighted blanket, just something that will be thick or dense enough that I'll really know it's there. [more inside]

Queen size quilt on a budget

Shopping for the home: I never do it. I'm looking for a deal on a queen size quilt/bedspread. Nothing too fancy. I've checked Amazon, SlickDeals, and Overstock, but feel like I'm missing something. What other budget-friendly websites for home-goods-type-stuff should I check?

Left matress on its side for a few days, now has lump that won't go away

Someone was moving out of my building shortly after I moved to my current apartment, resulting in my girlfreind and I getting a free queen sized mattress. I left it on its side for about three days while I got my stuff sorted, and since then the side that was in the air has a huge lump. Have I ruined it, or is there a way to fix this? [more inside]

Can my mattress be bad for me? Help me separate reality from woo.

We've been waking up headachy and cranky in a room that always acquires a "stuffy" smell overnight (which in retrospect smells a lot like said mattress). We chalked it up to bad air circulation until we opened up the mattress, which to our untrained eyes looked awful. But we're not chemists, and on this question the internet is rife with woo. Can the mattress really be causing our sleep issues? [more inside]

Recommendations for a soft, flat-ish pillow?

I need to replace my old pillow, but I'm having trouble finding one that I like. How hard could it be to find a nice, reasonably-sized pillow? Apparently really hard. Everything I find in the store is huge and overstuffed, which makes me feel like I'm sleeping with my head tilted all night and make my neck hurt. I've tried memory foam and I'm on the fence since I am used to a softer pillow. I'm going to keep using the memory foam for now, but in the meantime, give me your soft, flat pillow recommendations! I tend to sleep on my side and back, for more context.

My fitted sheet (bottom sheet) has a tendency to gradually get pulled off one side of the bed. This is because one side is closer to the wall, so all my getting in/out of bed and sleeping is on the other side. Is there a way I can stop this from happening, or at least slow it down? [more inside]

Odd bedding question - help a guy replace his blankie...

I've had this comforter since I was a kid (I think it's probably around 35yrs old now). I'm not sure what material it is, or how it has held up over the years, but it's my favorite -- my wife (understandably) looks at it strangely, but puts up with it. It's a early-eighties brownish orange, and has pilled up considerably, probably my favorite feature -- I know it's weird, I just like the feeling. [more inside]

Hot sleeper needs a blanket or duvet insert that will NOT keep me warm!

I'm a hot sleeper, but I love the feeling of having covers over me when I sleep. I need either a blanket or (preferably) a duvet insert that won't keep me warm. In a perfect world, it would have some weight, but zero ability to hold heat. I've been using a duvet cover with an old crappy comforter, but the comforter is finally falling apart, so it's time to look for something else. Style wise, it just needs to be white. And machine washable. Any other hot sleepers out there? What works for you? What should I be looking for?

Help Me Stop Ruining My Sheets

Somehow, my partner and I have a superhuman ability to ruin sheets. The seams of the pillowcases split open. The sheets themselves develop gaping holes where our feet hit them. Mattress Musings?

We need a new mattress, as our old one is ancient and reduced to badly sagging springs and dust-mites. I toss and turn vigorously, she sleeps like a log. I think anything above freezing is too hot, and she thinks anything below 85 is too cold. We really like the company of sleeping in the same bed.
