I want to get my full size mattress up off the floor-- what is the best way to accomplish this given my space constraints? [more inside]
I have never in my life bought a bed. I have never in my adult life owned a new mattress. I have always slept on hand-me-downs or give-aways. I am ready to invest in a new, top-quality mattress and box springs but I don't have the first idea of how or where to start. [more inside]
We just got a nice new mattress. It came with a box spring. We were using our old mattress on an IKEA bed (the Redalen, which I guess they don't sell anymore) with their cheap wooden slats, the Sultan Lade, as support. All things being equal, we'd stick with the IKEA bed and slats. But are all things equal? Are there advantages to using the box spring instead of the slats?
Is it normal for a down comforter to get really flat at the top, up at the top of the bed by the pillows? [more inside]
I have a very tiny new apartment, and the best place for a sofa also happens to be the wall where there is a Murphy bed. I'm considering a couple of options. I could put casters on my small loveseat so it's easier to push out of the way when the bed is down. But if I move the loveseat every day over a thick rug, will it damage the rug? (There's also isn't really a great place to move it to when the bed is down, because the space is so small). The other option I was considering was some type of floor seating that can fit under the bed, which has about 8" of space when it's down. Has anyone ever tried a sofa like this? Can floor seating be comfortable?

I'll be staying at my mom's house for a couple of months, in my old room. My allergies have been going bat**** crazy for the past week, and as a result I am getting a horrible night's sleep. When I moved into my apartment, the previous tenant left behind his kid's twin bed, which has been sitting in a corner covered with books for the last year. I want to finally get rid of it (on Craigslist or similar) but I have no idea what the asking price should be. Details inside. [more inside]
I have an annoying tendency to go to bed very late, like 3 or 4 am and wake up at lunch hour. I've tried to change this by getting used to wake up when the sun comes up but I'm always breaking this habit and going back to sleep with the windows covered. I think I got this annoying habit because I procrastinate during the day and when the day comes to an end I don't want to go to bed because I didn't do what was most important during the day. So I try to do that important thing until like 4 am and them go to sleep. I want to break this cycle but it's so difficult!
We have a king-size bed (Mattress, boxsprings) that is just sitting on the floor of our bedroom, taking up a big chunk of real estate and looking sort of shabby. To free up space, I would like to move the bed into a narrow alcove-like part of the room. This means we wouldn't have room for nightstands and so need a headboard w/ shelves. For aesthetic reasons, I would like a frame to cover the sides of the boxsprings. No need for the bed to be raised, it will still rest on the floor. For money reasons, I would like suggestions on how to build such a thing myself, or recommendations for good but economical products. [more inside]
So, two bad backs need a solution. Has anyone tried two twin long mattresses in a king platform bed frame? One of the details is that the mattresses will be of different heights from each other. Would it simply be better to have two separate twin bed frames and push them together? How have you solved the two bad backs, two mattress type problem? [more inside]

My husband and I need a bed, but we're on a tight budget so we are considering a mattress directly on the floor. Is there a kind of mattress more suited for this kind of arrangement? Any tips in general?
I am looking for a full-size platform bed frame with the following criteria:

I'm furnishing my apartment on a truly shoestring budget, and need to buy a bed for the first time. I know nothing about buying beds besides the concepts of frames, mattress and boxsprings (well, that and buying new to avoid bedbugs). What kinds of factors should I be considering? Where and how should I be buying my bed? What's a reasonable price? Please educate me! This is in the U.S.A. [more inside]
I rent a bedroom in a shared house, and my bed belongs to the room. It sucks and I need a new one. It's a double, but I have room to go bigger if it's not a big price upgrade. The new mattress should be fairly firm, but thick enough and squishy enough that I can lie on my side comfortably. The bedframe can be very minimal, but it should also be high, a meter or more elevated for storage purposes. It must not wobble. [more inside]
My daughters want loft beds for their room. However I'm a bit concerned about their ability to get down in the middle of the night, particularly the 5 year old, who is a bit short. I've looked into a DIY solution but I really don't have the time. Custom furniture is a bit out of the budget under $600. The Ikea models seem a bit wobbly and too tall.. Does anyone have any suggestions for ones that are lower height or preferably adjustable as the kids get taller?
Hello. I am a bed novice. I didn't know what a duvet or pillow sham was until I was like 25 (I grew up poor). Actually I'm still not sure what those are. But I recently stayed at the Mandarin Oriental in Las Vegas and fell into bed heaven. At first, I thought the bed was too soft because you can press down into it. But it actually gave tons of support. And the pillows were awesome. They were long and Euro? Anyway does anyone who supplies their bed stuff or how I can come close to recreating it without spending a million dollars?
Any advice on buying a Murphy bed? [more inside]
No work today. Last night I went to bed at 12:30. I woke up this morning (around 7) feeling fantabulous, and decided "Meh, I'm still below the 7-9 hour mark. Let's get a few more hours of beauty sleep in." I slept for two and a half extra hours, and woke up at about 9:30 feeling like donkey dung. I also had a nightmare. This has happened before (having nightmares when oversleeping). I would like to know if anyone has had any similar experiences. I would also like to ask if anyone gets below the 'average' amount of sleep and wakes up feeling great, but then goes back to sleep and wakes up feeling cruddy - even if they are not technically 'oversleeping'.

I need to sleep on a bed with an elevated head-end, while my wife needs to sleep on a bed with her feet elevated. I'd like to find an adjustable bed that lets us do this. Difficulty: I must sleep on my side or stomach, but all adjustable mattresses seem to fold in the middle (for example, like this), making sleeping on anything but your back uncomfortable or impossible. Surely there's a power-adjustable bed that keeps the mattress planar but tilted, allowing you to adjust the degree of tilt with the press of a button? If there is, I can't find it. [more inside]

My wife and I really love this simple, wooden four-poster bed from the design showroom SUITE New York. Unfortunately, it costs over $8,000, which is a good bit more than we'd like to pay. Can you recommend any cheaper beds in a similar style, or stores/designers which might carry something like this? (We live in NYC.) Thanks!
I was reading a library book when a bug crawled out. It was paper thin, and was moving incredibly slowly. My partner captured it and killed it, and then put it between two pieces of tape. We've looked online and, yep, probably a bedbug. What do we do now? Watchful vigilance? Fumigate our entire apartment (which may not be affordable at this time)? Somewhere in between? Details inside, if you want more... [more inside]
Our bedframe is broken beyond repair. Perhaps this would be a good time to get a bed that is larger than a full. Our budget is Ikea level—so I have two questions: 1) Will their queen size beds comfortably support our combined weight of 500-550 lbs? 2) Are there any Ikea beds or mattresses that you particularly like?
