I'm looking for a place to take the extended family this summer. About 20 people, ages 3 to 83 want to spend a week at some beach. Level of difficulty is we need 3 cabins/cottages/trailers/whatevers, and the location should be about 200 miles or so from Buffalo NY. So that would put us someplace between maybe Syracuse and Cleveland, and anywhere south of Toronto in Ontario. Closer to Buffalo is better. We're hoping to stay on a beach or as close to a beach as possible.

I'm in the middle of a road trip and going to be in California (for the first time ever!) this week. Looking for some recommendations for places to hit along the coast, specifically beaches along the southern end, and scenic places to stop and eat/drink further north.

Beautiful, quiet sandy beaches on the east coast or gulf coast of the US for a holiday next summer? Cottages with hammocks are preferable to condos or hotels. Basically I'm looking for the exact opposite of places like Myrtle Beach. Proximity (as in an hour's drive or less) to a culturally interesting city like New Orleans or Charleston is a definite bonus.

I need a vacation! I'm looking for a warm, beach-y place to relax for 5-6 days in February 2012. Pros: solitude, beautiful beaches, comfortable beds, massages, spas, great food, relaxation. Cons: crowds, kids, loud parties, lots of drunks. I will be leaving from Washington DC, so Caribbean and Central America recommendations would be great.

Is there somewhere in or near London, UK that can give a summer-like experience for a few hours? I'm looking for the opposite of a snowdome or an ice bar: a space that's warm, bright and summer-themed.

It turns out I'll be in The Villages, Florida for Christmas. My birthday is two days after Christmas, and I want to spend it at the beach. Is there a beach on either coast that far up Florida that'll be swimmable in late December?

We're getting married next June and want a beach wedding in Florida. We're looking in the general Cocoa Beach area and we're having a hard time picking the perfect beach. The wedding planner keeps trying to talk us into a beach we're not 100% in love with. We need help picking the perfect beach. Have you had a beach wedding in the Cocoa Beach area? Which beaches should we consider? We don't want something terribly crowded and touristy.

I'm planning on driving from DC to Colonial Beach in Virginia to go to the beach. I went there once last summer and thought it was a nice beach and it's only about a two hour drive from downtown Washington. Are there any other decent beaches in the area (as in less than three hour drive from DC and beaches where you can swim)?

My husband and I are trying to plan our first family vacation. We have two very well-behaved boys, aged 3 years and almost 2 years. We really want to do a beach vacation with family friendly attractions like an aquarium, boardwalk with rides, restaurants, etc... and we live near the metro NY area. We have to go the week of July 24th because my husband starts a new job on August 1st.

What is this? I've had it hanging on my wall for a year or two. It was found on the sand below the water line at the Fire Island National Seashore/Wilderness. It's lightweight and friable, like a sea creature. It's 24 cm (9.4 inches) long by 11 cm (4.3 inches) wide. 24 cm is 1.7 monkey skulls, if that helps.

My mom and I are planning a long weekend in Bermuda. We'd like to stay at a place with a kitchen so that we can do some cooking ourselves; my mom would prefer to be right on a (nice-for-walking) beach, if that's possible. Our budget is flexible, but we were thinking up to $200 a night. Can anyone recommend a cottage rental or something along those lines?
