I want to take a nice bath

My apartment only has a shower. I have a couple of vacation days coming up, and I'm tempted to rent a hotel room that has a nice bathtub. Difficulty: I am 6 feet tall and like 240 lbs, which means that a standard size bathtub is really unsatisfying. I want a big bathtub, ideally with some kind of heating element so it doesn't get cold after twenty minutes. How can I find such a thing? [more inside]

Bathtub Overflow of my dreams

We just installed an new freestanding clawfoot tub and just installed all the waste lines and faucet - however I'm finding that while it's deep enough for my wife, the location of the overflow is a little too low for my tastes, and I'd like to cover the overflow so I can get a couple more inches of water in the tub. How to unblock the drain that I blocked while unblocking it?

I have the type of bathtub drain that opens and closes from a knob at the side of the tub. This morning, I fished out a lot of hair from the drain with a metal stick. I was very pleased with myself as I turned the water on, expecting it to flow at great speed down the drain. Instead, nothing! [more inside]

Looking for a cast iron bathtub with a specific shape

We're trying to find a 60"x30" alcove bathtub made of cast iron but shaped like the American Standard Princeton tub. It's similar in shape to the cast iron tub we wanted to keep but which our contractor accidentally broke. It seems to be a standard "vintagey" tub shape, whereas new Kohler cast iron tubs have weird, angular shapes. Toto has one that's a little closer to what we're looking for but not quite right and more money than we're hoping to spend. Are there other manufacturers that I'm missing?

Tub Time for Timmy

I have a huge 100+ gallon tub with jets and such. What are some fun things I can add to my bath time to make it more enjoyable? I already do bubblebath and salts, and have a few floating toys and a water pipe (pan pipes you can play in the tub).. For various reasons I spend hours in there at a time. Generally I read beater books or watch Netflix on my otherwise decommissioned iPhone 4. Assume I am bathing alone and am not afraid of anything

A non-slip bath tub mat that actually doesn't slip?

You know those mats you put on the floor of the bath tub so you don't slip? Bought one and it's slipped once or twice. So is there a particular brand of these mats that you've bought and it has never, ever once slipped, say for years? The wife needs one that we can pretty much guarantee will never, ever slip. I'm not looking for "Oh just go buy one," but "We bought this specific mat x years ago and it's worked like a champ, through all sorts of soapy water, buy this one." Alternative suggestions for preventing slippage in the bathtub while showering are fine.

My porcelain sink (and tub) have a problem

We have very hard water and it has a tendancy to stain stuff pretty quickly. The area of the sink and the tub just below the faucets are an endless battle. The only thing that has ever been able to get those stains out has been bleach, but now the bleach has only made things worse because they stain even MORE quickly. It really looks terrible. Help me fix my sink and tub so that we don't look like Grubby McSlobbersons. [more inside]

Tub is leaking water through the floor, and I'm very worried (Cleveland)

Living in the Cleveland, Ohio area. The area around my upstairs bathroom's bathtub has been leaking through the floor to the downstairs bathroom for some time now. I kept putting off getting it fixed, and when my son who is home visiting saw it grew extremely worried. He said that it is damaging the structural integrity of the house and could also be breeding "black mold" which is a health hazard. Is it really that bad? What kind of work would be necessary to fix this, and should a professional be called? (Picture inside) [more inside]

Please help me fix my bathtub

We had our bathroom completely renovated 2 years ago. A couple of issues have gradually developed, that I don't think are serious enough to call in the contractor to repair, and I'm happy to do the work myself if it's easy enough, so I'm looking for advice on how best to proceed. [more inside]

I am in the process of a bathroom remodel and am ready to get a door put on my new tub/shower. Please help me figure out whether any modifications should be made to the tile first. Three handles, not three seashells

Our second bathroom has a cruddy bathtub/shower faucet. It's probably original to the house, would be ugly even in new condition but is currently crusty with scale, wiggly, and doesn't seal off all the way for the shower. Who has a Japanese soaking tub?

Does anyone own a Japanese soaking tub, and, if so how do you like it? I'm renovating and in a quandary about whether to put a small free-standing tub in my little semi-circular bath, or whether to install a deep but small Japanese soaking tub. I'm interested in anyone's feedback who owns and uses a Japanese soaking tub, what you hate and/or love about it.

Cover over bathtub scratches?

I'm in an apartment with a white bathtub that has some scratches (or maybe burns? they look dark brown) that reveal the underlying bronze-looking metal. Is there any really simple cheap way to cover over those scratches (other than a bathtub mat)? Perhaps some kind of simple "white-out" like spray that would do the job?

Can't close my bathtub drain.

I am really dumb, and I cannot figure out how to get the stopper back into my bathtub. I live in a new apartment, and I am not used to this style of bathtub stopper. It looks just like this. I pulled it straight out, but when I go to put it back, it doesn't seem to lock on to anything, and I can't get it to sit flat. Is there some trick to these? Feel free to describe it to me as though I were a three-year-old child because I think that is the only way I will understand! Thank you.
