A little while back I heard a bass guitar player with some kind of amazing live looping set-up - what on earth was it? I keep wondering what he was doing. All I could see was that he was grabbing (sampling) things he was playing, as he was playing them (ie while he was continuing to play), using foot pedals of some sort, and then incorporating those loops into the rest of the track. Amazing. But how?

What is that groovy bass line on those Cablevision commercials? There are a series of recent Cablevision commercials with a dark haired dude talking in front of a white background - these all end with a really groovy bass line. Is that from a real song, or is it just something they just recorded for the commercial?

I've never played any instruments in my life and at the age of 29 I'm interested in learning the electric bass guitar. Will I be able to do this? Or do you have to have been playing an instrument since you were a child? Erm, that's it. Oh, any similar experiences or useful resources would be good to hear about. Ta.

I need karaoke song suggestions suitable for my voice. My range is somewhere between Bass and Baritone. I can go higher, but it's difficult for me to keep in the right octave, and I almost always end up dropping songs made for Tenors down an octave or two. Examples: Blink 182 songs, Inside Out, even Creed songs I tend to lower without realizing it. [more inside]

Suppose a fellow has an interest in learning to play an upright bass. He doesn't have any illusions about being the next Mingus or William Parker, but enjoys the sound and feel of the instrument and would get personal enjoyment out of being able to play a few things. Further suppose that this fellow has very little money to invest in this endeavor. How would he go about learning?

Do you use your equalizer? If so how and why? When playing back music I tend to raise the treble and bass extremes a bit only to find that it makes another album, or even another song by the same artist sound like crap. So then I reset everything back to zero for a while and go through the same process. Is there a "proper" way to use an equalizer?
