What do you mean, "Don't use the checklists as checklists"?

I have approximately 3000-5000 baseball trading cards (and a few hockey and football cards) from 1978 through 1983. What's the best way to sort through them, figure out the quality, identify the more valuable cards, and sell them?

we don't need no stinkin' instant replay

Earlier this summer a couple of sportscasters were talking about a baseball player whose career stats were revised (I think?) years after the fact because a diligent sports nerd went back to the box score, reconstructed the game, and saw that something should have been classified as something else...an error was assigned to the wrong player, or something like that. Who was it? And are there other examples?

"You know my name, look up the number"

Sports jersey questions: Why is the baseball pitcher with a single-digit number such a rarity? Why do hockey goalies usually wear 1, or something in the 30s? And why are 2-7 usually worn by defensemen? [more inside]

Sports card management software recommendations

Baseball/Hockey cards: Does anyone have any opinions about any of the software that purports to help with organization of sportscards? Does anyone still collect cards? I'm looking more for personal experience and recommendations. If it helps, I'm looking to categorize and sort older cards (say, pre-1990 but after 1970), and almost exclusively hockey and baseball singles and sets. Thanks!
