I can haz notez on Anna Magdelenaz deadz?

Is there a way to get the extensive liner notes from the ECM Recording Morimur online? I had heard about this cd a bit and the controversy surrounding it, so I ordered a used copy. Really. I have a physical, not stolen from the internets used copy here. But is must be a different version (or came without the book.....hrm...bet that's it). So I can't read the story. Is there a place online I could see the text or ideally a facsimile of the original book?

The music is great, but I'd like to read this nutty theory behind it.

I'd also be interested in reading any astute criticism of the notes and theory behind the CD.

Thanks!

How does the music in the St. Matthew´s Passion by J.S. Bach relate to the lyrics and what effect do they have on each other (lyrics and music)? Existing interpretations and own thoughts are welcome!

Also analyses of the arias in the Passion would be helpful.

Recommended Baroque classical Box-sets as a X-Mas Gift?

Recommended Baroque classical Box-sets as a X-Mas Gift? I'd like to get a good friend some Baroque classical albums for X-mas ... I'd like to get a good friend (as per her wish) some Baroque classical albums for X-mas, which I'll end up ripping and putting on her ipod (in addition to the actual cds).

She has mentioned composers such as Paganini, Vivaldi, Corelli, Purcell, Handel, and, of course, Mozart. I'd prefer getting her a few dedicated and relatively comprehensive box-sets, but I'm uncertain as to the quality of performances or the relative popularity of particular pieces (beyond the obvious).

Are there box-sets by the Baroque "biggies" that people would recommend... or, alternatively, are there "must have" baroque CDs that I would be better off purchasing? (I think I'll budget a few hundred dollars US for this gift set).

Thanks!

Trying to figure out nudity in old art

What is the deal with this kind of half-undress in Baroque paintings? Now that I think about it, I recall seeing a lot of paintings from the era where women are letting down their dress like this, often in mixed company. In today's context, it would almost look like the room is too hot and she's trying to cool off, and that it's no big deal to those present.

Then there's more grandiose pictures like this where it looks like clothes are getting ripped off (maybe like an erotic opera), and just odd scenes like this that look like the artist either intent on skirting taboos or fixated on painting the female body.

What is it the artists were trying to convey, especially in the non-fantasy paintings like the first one? I'm sure there were modesty taboos in that era, but I'm not understanding the whole picture. I'm also not bashing nudity.. nothing wrong with it.. just trying to understand.

Amazing baroque skeletal art... Artist?

I saw this link from some blog. It's some baroque skeletal sculpture and it's amazing. The page's author doesn't seem to know much about it, but damn I would love to have a piece like this. Does anybody here know anything about this or this style?

http://self-improvement.readigg.com/description/16213.html In particular, I'm curious about this image:
Roccoco Music

Many years ago in Boston when WBCN was a classical station, it broadcast a program called Dekovan (SP?) Presents. The commentator on this program made a distinction between Baroque and Rococo music. He did not elaborate on the differences between the two and implied they were too subtle for most of his listeners to understand. I do not remember after 40-45 years any of his examples of Rococo. Does Rococo music exist or was Dekovan the only one that recognized it? Do any elderly AskMefs remember Dekovan and know anything about him? The show was syndicated throughout the country.

Recommend music that combines jazz with baroque classical.

In Nina Simone's "Love Me or Leave Me" she plays a piano solo that incorporates a bit baroque* classical piano. Makes sense, since she was trained as a classical pianist, and the effect is wonderful. Please recommend some other songs or artists that use this kind of jazz/baroque combo.

* Disclaimer: I'm not a classical music expert, so I may have the terminology wrong. I welcome your corrections.
