How can I, an individual (not a business), automate a regular monthly payment to another individual (not a business) so that the payment is moved from my bank account into theirs? It can't involve issuing a paper check to the recipient which they then deposit--it needs to go straight to their account. [more inside]

Sought: a safe deposit box in Brooklyn or Manhattan. Difficulties: I don't want it to cost me $80/year (as my bank, Chase, does), and I don't want to have to sign up for a checking account / other relationship with the bank (though I may be flexible about this if the bank offers absotively-free checking). Now, to make it more annoying, I only want a box at an attractive bank. Also, the easier it is for me to give a key to a deputy/agent, the happier I will be. [more inside]

I want to donate $500 to my favorite local volunteer-run non-profit. I'm friends with the folks who run the thing, and would prefer to remain anonymous. I'd like to get more out of Mint.com, but can't figure out how to do what I'd like to do. The crux of the problem is that Mint.com mistakenly identifies some of my recurring monthly expenses as being payments to Marshall's (the store). Payments that Mint.com assumes are to Marshall's are actually to more than one payee, and the Rules feature doesn't seem to be customizable enough to handle that. [more inside]

In a discussion that I had with my brother over the holidays, he explained to me how the banking /investment failure was all the democrats fault. After picking myself up off the floor, he continued to explain to me how the dems blocked a bill that the republicans were trying to get through the senate to increase regulations on banks and their investment practices. After much googling, I am still unable to find what he could be referring to. Does this bill sound familiar to anyone? [more inside]

I operate as a sole proprietorship in the State of Texas and use my personal name as the name of my business with "Consulting" tacked on the end of it as per state rules. My bank has recently stopped accepting checks made out to anything but my real name because of "The Patriot Act" and "your business and personal finances are different according to the IRS", but won't let me open a business account since I don't have a separate EIN.
