I have saved up about $25,000 for school, which starts in September. I have it in a WaMu online savings account which had very high interest, but now the interest rates have plummeted so that I am barely making anything anymore. It went from getting $50 a month on $10,000 to making $17 this month on 25k. :( Where should I put my money where it will be safe, easily accessible in a fairly short term, and yet with as high of an interest return as possible. I also need to be able to continue to input money into the account every month when I get my paycheck. PS: I am planning to take loans if they are interest free and hold off paying them until I can't defer any longer. But when I quit my job, I will need to start withdrawing money for daily living expenses.

I'm moving overseas from the US in less than a year, and my stellar powers of observation tell me that there's a good chance the dollar is going to eat shit before then. My savings are <$10,000, what can I do with them to ensure that I'm not cursing the economy when I leave? Is putting it in foreign currency enough, or is there a better option? How do I do that? I'm trying to find a bank that might have a certain kind of bank account to aid me in the discipline of saving a certain amount of money; barring that, I'd appreciate any creative ideas on how to accomplish the same goal. More inside. [more inside]

Embarrassment of riches filter: I have a Bank of America account, and about two weeks ago I noticed that they had erroneously deposited approximately $1,400 of extra interest from some savings bonds into my account. I called to notify them of their error, and after playing phone tag, they eventually realized that the deposit was a mistake and assured me that they'd take back the money. Bizarrely, they still haven't, which is starting to get annoying. After a certain period of time, do I get to keep the money? If not, can I do something to get them to actually take it back?
