My cousin has a job offer at Johns Hopkins (Homewood campus) and is considering a move to Baltimore--but where to live? They have a young kid and so need a good school and a short, preferably car-less commute to work, and would like a walkable, safe area--does this pretty much rule out the city? Coming from brownstone Brooklyn, which they like in most respects. Suggestions?

I have tickets with my cousin and his kids (14/16 years old) to go to the Orioles game at 8:05pm on Sunday. But we also want to watch the World Cup Final somewhere first. Where would we be able to watch the game, with the teenagers in tow, so that we can get from there to Camden Yards easily/quickly? [more inside]

General interest (well, if you're interested in rashes and bug bites and other matters dermatological), but people who know the Baltimore medical scene are particularly invited to read on. I need to get to NYC for a wedding rehearsal on Friday. There is going to be an insane snowstorm her tomorrow. Should I try to get an Amtrak for tomorrow morning (cheaper) or try for Friday morning (kind of expensive)? Will snow stop the trains? Should I just try to go tonight (imposing on people)?
I already bought a bus ticket for Friday morning a few weeks ago but I'm guessing the roads will not be great between the cities. Is this a wrong assumption?

We live in and are getting married in Baltimore. Most folks will be coming from out-of-town (generally West Coast or Midwest), and we want to showcase our super cool city as best we can. As wedding favors, we plan to make gift bags of unique Baltimore food items. So far, we've got Zeke's coffee, Berger cookies, and Old Bay seasoning (not that anyone really wants Old Bay). We will serve pit beef and crab cakes at the wedding, but, for obvious reasons, can't include them in the gift bag. What are we missing?

I'm spending a weekend going from Baltimore to DC. I would prefer to bring my car and drive but I think with the hassle of trying to find parking or actually having to pay for parking in the DC/Arlington area it would be easier to take the train.
I'm not too familiar with Baltimore's Penn Station at night and I'm a concerned for my safety if I were to park in a garage and have to return to their at night.
Where is it safe to park at night at Penn Station? And how much would it cost?
... Are there any other alternative ideas?
Thanks in advance!

My husband and I are looking for a hip, progressive, ethnically mixed city that is not over-priced yet. We have lived in nyc, Miami and La and have been priced out of all these markets with the overpriced housing. Considering Baltimore as I heard its not completely off the charts housing wise.
I am a chef and teach cooking classes and he is in the renewable energy business and we work for ourselves.
Both of us like good food, outdoors stuff like biking and hiking and enjoy a liberal atmosphere.
Are we dreaming or might Baltimore be a good fit?

Do you have any secret spots within an hour or so of Baltimore that you want to share with the entirety of the internets? Unlike previous AskMes, I don't want to go swimming, or deal with a billion tourists. I just want to go read a good book near the water for a day (ideally on a quiet beach, or in a park near a beach).

, but I'm not sure people actually read
ads like that.

Me and the missus are meeting her parents in Annapolis this weekend. Of the four of us, two are enthusiastic omnivores, one loosely follows Atkins' diet (low carb) and one is intolerant of dairy and even small amounts of capsaicin. None of us are at all familiar with Annapolis. We'll be there for about 2 days, and have one car. Where should we eat? [more inside]

Just moved to Baltimore (working in Columbia), haven't had time to unpack let alone find a new PCP, and wouldn't you know it, i'm sick. Does anyone have any recommendations for a drop-in clinic or urgent care facility in the Laurel-Ellicott City-Columbia area that (a) won't charge ER rates and (b) has decent staff? I found several when I googled, but have no way to evaluate them other than google recommendations. Bonus points if you can ALSO recommend other good practitioners (I need a primary care physician, an endocrinologist and a dermatologist) in that area or the south side of Baltimore for when I have time to set up appointments for initial visits.

At the end of August I heard an author being interviewed on the Baltimore NPR about her book on the history of Maryland. I was in the car and couldn't write down her name or the name of the book, and I can't seem to find it listed on Amazon. Does anyone know what this book might be?
In the part I heard she was talking about Maryland's history as a Catholic/Royalist haven, and the tensions this caused with neighboring Virginia.
Inspired by this post on the blue.
