I have a mess of ad-hoc backup systems, none of which “just work”. I would like to have a NAS that quietly backs up the cross-platform content I have, and also mirrors it online securely. I should probably budget for about 1-2 TB. I have no problem doing geeky setup stuff, but the less routine stuff I have to remember, the better. System details follow.

I've been using Hotmail for ages and I have a bunch of important emails going back two years which I need to organise and print out. Hotmail isn't very good at opening up multiple emails or printing them out so I'd like to download them to my macbook. They are currently sitting in their own folder in my Hotmail account. How do I download this folder and what software should I use?

I'd like to transfer (iTunes) music off of an old PC and an even older iMac onto a NAS that plays nicely with our new Mac laptops and even newer Sonos system. I have two newish macbook pro laptops (with OS X 10.6) and want one to automatically and wirelessly back-up to the other one so will always have a "hot backup" on the second machine (I inherited the second one, so seems a reasonable use). FWIW, I have DSL with wireless modem in the house, so wouldn't want the ability for the machines to talk with each other to allow inadvertant access from anyone from the web. How to set it up?

I created an Automator Workflow to do a daily automatic offsite backup of my documents. The only snag is that when I get my mac's Mail program to send the email to my gmail account, most of the time the message just sits in the outbox and doesn't actually send; but sometimes it starts sending right away. BackupFilter: My boss has a Seagate FreeAgent external drive attached to her Macbook Pro. Using the drive manager software that came with it, I set up scheduled backups for her on MWF at noon. Problem is, it doesn't follow the schedule and won't back up at all.
