I have a PCI-E SSD as my boot drive, and a win7-created RAID 1 on two 3TB drives. My boot drive has my user folder on it, but my documents, music, pictures, videos, etc folders shortcut to their respectable folders on the RAID. I would like this to be a full redundancy scheme and it is, but I've run into several nags and I would like to know how to fix them and prepare a fix-it plan before any of the drives fails. I would like to keep an offsite backup of certain files (various financial docs, my iTunes library, and some photos)--say, 200 gigs total. I've considered storing them online with Crashplan, but the cost of the unlimited plan for multiple computers (mine and SO's) and the bandwidth to push that data out leave me meh. Thinking of getting another HD and keeping it at work. Can I run something by you? [more inside]

Another boooooring computer question - sorry!

How do I clone a HD in a win2k system? My system's boot hd is a 20g 5400 rpm. I'd like to swap it for a 20 g 7200 rpm which is sitting at the moment in an external firewire enclosure. I also have 150g in an internal RAID array.

I backed up my /library/webserver/documents folder to a firewire HD. When I dragged it back, the permissions went all kablooey:

drwxr-xr-x 36 root admin 1224 16 Jan 16:58 Documents

sudo chmod 755 Documents does not give groups write privileges.

1. Do I just need to go read a good chmod tutorial, or is something aberrant happening here?

2. Is there any way to apply appropriate permissions recursively?
