- i recently had to get an i phone 5 for work at a new job.
- i backed up the previous iphone 4 to i cloud.
- when i re-entered i cloud, it said the backup is incomplete.
- i thought i had changed my apple id username,
but i have only been able to use the old id so obviously i must have done it incorrectly
- i cannot sync my old contacts and photos to my new i phone.
- i assume all the contacts are on the old sim, but it doesnt fit a 5.
- i probably dont have access to the old handset.
- i might be able to use my girlfriends handset, but not reset it.
- i want the photos and contacts.
i am starting to really hate apple.
how do i do it - is there a way or have i lost all my contacts?

Two hard drives. HD2 with a bunch of lossless music. HD1 with the same music plus a bunch more music that I've acquired in recent months. I want all of my collection on both drives in case one fails. Besides copying over each new file piecemeal, or deleting everything on drive 2 and just copying the entirety of drive 1, is there a more elegant way to do this?
Is there a program or method that will only copy over the files that HD2 doesn't already have?

I lost my iTunes installation in a hard drive crash. I have a backup from many months ago. I have an iPad and iPhone that have never been synced to iTunes because I got them since the hard drive failure. I'd like to re-install iTunes from the backup and sync my iPad and iPhone to the re-installed iTunes without losing any data or re-installing apps. How would I do that? [more inside]

I have a 2Tb network hard drive with a lot of important photos etc. which I'd like to backup to the cloud in a Mozy/Crashplan manner ie updated files are automagically uploaded to the cloud without me having to worry about it.
What services will *actually* let me do this? I've paid for at least one service which actually refuses to connect to my NAS drive... (a Netgear Stora, if you need to know this!)

Yesterday's unprecedented rain event + power outage left a lot of folks in Toronto with flooded basements. We were home to bail out our sump but I'd like the piece of mind of knowing we have a reliable backup system.
Amazon has a highly rated water powered unit called the Basepump RB 750, so I'm leaning towards that kind of system but would appreciate input from anyone here. The battery powered unit would be much easier to install but I'm wondering how reliable people have found them to be over time. Would it just be a matter of replacing the battery every 5 years or so, like in a car? . [more inside]

I am looking for software which would allow me search my Windows 7 laptop for every photo and video I have. Browsing the search results I would like to be able to see both pictures and videos in thumbnail form. I would then like to be able to copy all unique files to a hard-drive. Once copied I would like to organise them into folders chronologically. [more inside]

I'm looking for a backup program that is as fuss-free as possible. It should keep (only) one full backup plus the current backup (every week or two), do incremental backups automatically in between, and automatically run for incremental backups when the drive is attached instead of at preset times. It should be very easy to pause, and easily allow me to choose what to include or exclude. I'd like it to work on multiple computers (2 or 3). Free isn't necessary, but a reasonable-length free trial is. [more inside]

I want to replace my mother's aging laptop with an iPad. My only concern is making sure her photos and documents are backed up, online, without her having to think about it, ever.
Is there an effortless way to make sure all of her data gets backed up and can be restored in case of emergency?
Dropbox seems like an option, but that's not really backup as much as sync - files only last 30 days if they get removed from your device. I'd prefer to have true backup than can be restored at any time.

However, now when I plug in either device to the PC and start iTunes, all the data is listed as "Other" (in an orange bar across the bottom of the window). Further, when I click "Back Up Now" the sync begins, then stops after a second or two with no error message. Can I recover from this without losing my data? [more inside]

My boot drive has my user folder on it, but my documents, music, pictures, videos, etc folders shortcut to their respectable folders on the RAID. I would like this to be a full redundancy scheme and it is, but I've run into several nags and I would like to know how to fix them and prepare a fix-it plan before any of the drives fails. I stupidly let a web hosting account expire without backing up and transferring my site to my new server. I'm talking to the host to try to get access to my data (fingers crossed), but in case that does not work out: Is there a way to efficiently harvest Google's entire cache of a specific domain? Something else I should consider? I would like to act fast on this, and I don't have any programming/tech-fu skills.

I backed up the contents of my ASUS UL50VT laptop in 2011 to my Seagate external hard drive using their Memeo software. In 2012, I connected the Seagate again and ran a second backup, and it created a separate folder where it stored all the new files I'd gained since the previous time. So far, so good.
Now when I try to back it up again, it has started from scratch--duplicating the entire contents of my 450 GB laptop to a third folder. I'm gonna use up all my hard drive space this way, stat. Any way to make it back up only the new files again, like it did before?

At work I'm using a Macbook Pro with OS X 10.7.4, running Outlook 2011. Today, I have to ship off this computer to get an upgrade and security update, and they will be wiping out the contents of the hard drive. They've left us very minimal instructions to back up any files we need. For me, the absolute most important thing is having access to all of my old emails and their attachments. So, QUESTION: how do I backup all of my emails in Outlook so that I'll be able to access them on my newly-wiped computer? Where are email files stored on my computer? How can I back up the attachments on the old emails? How do I avert total disaster?

I have a mess of ad-hoc backup systems, none of which “just work”. I would like to have a NAS that quietly backs up the cross-platform content I have, and also mirrors it online securely. I should probably budget for about 1-2 TB. I have no problem doing geeky setup stuff, but the less routine stuff I have to remember, the better. System details follow. [more inside]

However, having used ol' reliable paper for so many years, I'm a bit paranoid about using Google calendar (or an app) and then losing all my data somehow... Is there an iPhone/iPad calendar app that would make me feel more "secure," or is there a service like Backupify that doesn't
require a Google Apps account? I'd love to back up my Gmail too, if possible. (Am I just worrying too much? Is using iCloud enough? I am clearly clueless.)
