I (male) am a freshly minted university lecturer. My cheapo grad school backpack won't cut it anymore, so I'm looking for a replacement that will not scream "student". It should be fairly small and light (I rarely carry a lot of books, sometimes a laptop) and comfortable for walking. Also looking for a messenger bag for days when I bike or drive to campus. Hoping to keep it under $100 for each. Recs?
I'm looking for a men's backpack or messenger bag that exists at some magic intersection of lightweight and strong/durable. This is for daily commuting, often by foot, in New York City. My flashy new devices are impossibly light, and I'm looking for a bag that won't add unnecessary bulk when I carry some or all of them with me. [more inside]
I would like a black backpack, smaller than your average backpack, that's just large enough to fit my iPad, u-lock, and a few essentials while riding my bike. Something like this would work, except I would really prefer something with a squared off rolltop or flap top to the traditional rounded zipper backpack opening. To be even more picky, I would prefer it to be water-resistant, and ideally from a small messenger bag company that manufactures in the USA. If I could just buy something like this and shoot it with a shrink ray, I'd be happy. [more inside]
I'm looking for a bag that can be all (or most) of the following: laptop/messenger bag, airplane carry on, backpack, and diaper bag. My Google-fu is failing me, but I've come across the terms "travel bag" or "convertible". I like the look and durability of canvas bags or a similar type material. I'm not too big into leather, mainly because the good quality ones are mostly out of my price range (eg, Saddleback). I'd like to stay under $300, but can go higher for the right bag. [more inside]
I am looking for a messenger bag or backpack that will be good for bus/bike commuting in the rain, i.e. will keep my lunch, reading material, and spare clothing dry whilst I am getting soaked. I would also prefer it to be durable and green.
I know I'm not the first with this sort of question, but bear with me. I need some sort of messenger-bag/briefcase/laptop-case thing for school, work, travel, cycling, and general out-and-about purposes. Emphasis on durability, value, and versatility. Anybody have some good recommendations? [more inside]
