I am a nontraditional student who has gone back to school and completed an AA degree.I work all kinds of messed up hours and I have found that pursuing a bachelors of General studies (over the internet) at the university of Missouri will work for me.I can have the tests sent to a local library or school for finals etc. I was wondering what the Meta filter community thinks about a bgs. Has it helped or hindered them.

Uh oh, time to plan a memorable, one of a kind Southern California bachelor party and strippers aren't an option! Please hive mind, help! The party will be happening at the end of September/early October.

Things we are considering but know nothing about:

A boat/fishing trip of some kind? Catalina?

Paintball? Any great places to do it?

Great steak house and classic cigar bar afterwards? Any recommendations?

And any other idea under the sun would be appreciated!

Some of the ideas we've had so far seem great but I've never done them in the So Cal area and have no idea about quality of establishments, feasibility at that time of year, et cetera.

How do a plan a last-minute bachelor party in Boston?

What are some suggestions for a last-minute Bachelor Party in Boston this coming weekend? Best man was really dropping the ball, so the rest of the groomsmen and I went ahead and started putting together a little bachelor party action for this coming weekend.

So far, we're day-tripping down to Foxwoods for some gambling action, then coming back to Beantown for dinner at Morton's Steakhouse in the Back Bay area. We're also considering Cigarmasters nearby.

Groom is pretty straight shooter vanilla-type with a side of geek. Fan of WWE and World of Warcraft. He's also not a drinker really. Not sure how into the stripper thing he'd be, but its an option if there's something classier to go after.

I'm completely open for suggestions of things to do in the Foxwoods region to make it more special than just some gambling time, but even more so some places to hit up in the Back Bay area and around for some enjoyable bachelor-party like activities. Additionally, if you have a general idea of how to make this a special evening moreso than another night with the guys would be much appreciated as described here.

Bachelor Party Help! What are some ideal Bachelor Party outing bars/lounges in New York City? I'm the Best Man for my brother's wedding next month. I'm planning a Bachelor Party and I've never done this before. My brother is a little bit older, (he's 40), so it's not going to be that classic Tom Hanks affair at a strip club etc. The night will be comprised of 2 halves, an everybody dinner out Hoboken then a night out on the town. Bachelor Party Help! Where are some great restaurants in Hoboken, NJ and NYC that are ideal for a Bachelor Party outing? What about Bar or Lounge locations in NYC that would be ideal? After dinner the 2cd half of the bachelor party is going to be a little more for the younger crowd and off to a bar or lounge. Something similar to Hogs and Heifers or Coyote Ugly type bars. I've been thinking of:

-McSorelys (kind of a sausage fest not first on my list)
-Coyote Ugly

I don't know NYC very well or spots that would be considered hot for a guy's bachelor party. Any suggestions would be most appreciated on how to make his bachelor party extra-awesome.

Bachelor Party Etiquette So tonight is my cousin's bachelor party. I am one of 5 total groomsmen (not the best man) and am not really sure what the etiquette is regarding the party and costs.

The details I have:
1. It is at a friends house who I don't know (not an attendant) and the groom knows nothing about the plans (just to meet at x place and time).
2. The best man (whom I don't know really at all) is organizing everything and has purchased a keg/liquor and I believe even hired a stripper or strippers.
3. There will probably be around 10 guys at the party. The groom, 5 attendants, and a handful of other friends.

The big question is what should I pitch in to help pay for the party? I'd estimate the costs to be at least $400 for the best man and I'm probably the only other person besides the best man that really could afford to pitch anything in.

Always looking for great ideas to improve the experience as well! Thanks in advance.

I need your recommendations for steakhouses in the D.C./Northern Virginia area. Is Fleming's as wonderful as I've heard it is, or are there better steakhouses that are perhaps not chains? I'm the best man in my brother's wedding, and I'm trying to organize a night out for the groom and his groomsmen.

We will have transportation to and from, so parking is not an issue. A private room would be a nice touch, but not absolutely necessary.

Where can I buy a giant foam cowboy hat in the Toronto area? Help me embarass my friend. I need a giant foam cowboy hat (example) for a friend's bachelor party, which is this Saturday. I live in downtown Toronto. There are some U.S. online joke shops that will deliver internationally, but they can't guarantee the hat will arrive by the end of the week. Is there a local joke shop I don't know about? How about an e-tailer based in Ontario? Any suggestions appreciated.

I've been living on my own for about five years now, but I still cannot for the life of me understand grocery shopping. I've tried buying the staples, easy-to-cook meals, and even specific recipes. But I always end up ordering take out after a week. I know that one needs to grocery shop about once a week to replenish the perishables, etc. But I never feel like I'm buying the right things, that I have staple supplies at the ready, that I have a decent 'kitchen'.

I want to start eating healthier, as I wholly believe it contributes to a better life all-around. But eating take out 95% of the time leaves little room for this.

I've tried compiling a book of recipes that focus on healthy eating, but these recipes are so damned expensive and call for such specific things that I have all but given up on their conception.

So what I'm really asking is, what advice do the experienced MeFites have when it comes to grocery shopping and putting together a seven-nights-a-week meal plan? What should I expect to spend (I thought it was supposed to save money)? Where do I begin?

I'm overwhelmed with it, hope the hive mind can help. Thanks.

The Greatest Bachelor Party in Sin City

How can I throw my other best friend the greatest bachelor party ever in Las Vegas around Spring Break time? So last year I threw a pretty sweet bachelor party in Myrtle Beach and its going to be really hard to out do it-- but out do it I must. My other best friend has asked me to throw his bachelor party as well! I figure it's about time we make it to Vegas so I need some help. I've never been to Vegas in my life and I really don't know what to expect or how to plan anything at all?

What:
My best friend's bachelor party

When:
Spring Break Season! (I'm assuming Spring Break will bring an influx of young people. Any time between March and April is fine with me though, so recommend a date if you have any suggestions!) We'd be in Vegas from Friday morning until Monday morning of some weekend.

Who:
10-12 guys in their mid twenties (me and the groom are 25). Half are single, half are in committed relationships. Ones um.. ya know.. getting married.

Where:
Las Vegas

One catch:
No hookers :-(

Help!
Is there any way to set this up as a cheap package? I imagine everyone can find their own flights to LV since they're pretty cheap. What about getting a suite at a hotel for us all to sleep in? Any suggestions?

What about activities? There are two things I want to have happen. A: We participate in some sort of athletic event (like Whirleyball or Capture the Flag or something), preferably featuring just our group

B: The groom (and the groomsmen?) must wear a different costume every day. Elvis one day, a cowboy the next, etc.

The rest is wide open, so I need suggestions!

Priorities:
1. Having lots of fun!
2. Not spending more than $400 on the whole trip not counting gambling (preferably less!)
3. Bonding activities

Looking for gift ideas for A Single Guy, with essentially no other information. What to get my dad's wife's son for the gift exchange? For our family gift exchange, we each give a gift to two people. This year, I'm giving to my dad's wife, and her mid-30s bachelor son. Gifting to my dad's wife isn't tough - she's very into cooking, and we share a lot of common interests. However, her son is a bit of an anomaly. I don't know him well at all. He lives in Aliso Viejo, in Orange County, CA, and I don't know that area well, so I can't think of any location-specific gift certificates that might be nice. He's currently unemployed, and lives in his mother's condo, while she lives in San Diego with my dad.

He seems like a nice enough guy, but trying to engage him in conversation always sort of reaches a dead end. I'm not very good at small talk, and he doesn't seem to have any specific hobbies or interests to speak of. He's just a sort of average guy, shaved head, medium-large build, and may or may not have a general sort of dude interest in sports and cars. I asked my dad for ideas, and this is all he could come up with:

· Cologne

· a dress shirt

· a tool (I can pick one out if you like)

· (His mom) is buying him a desk, so how about a desk accessory

· Something from Costco (I’ll check with (his mom) on our visit there tomorrow)

None of those really seem like great ideas. If possible, I'd like to try to get him something unique that he'd appreciate, that says I actually put some thought in to it. I know he feels as though my side of the family doesn't like him very much, although I don't think we've done anything specific to give him that impression. We've just never been very involved in each other's lives, which is making this difficult.

As far as budget, somewhere around $50 is probably good. Is this an impossible task? Should I just go pick out [insert random man-tool or cologne]?

Bachelor Party: My best man is trying to plan my bachelor party. I do not want to do the typical Vegas, strippers, drink-till-you-fall-down thing. Some of the guys that will be there will want to get wild / drunk, some will not. I don't mind getting hammered, but would like to do more than just that. I thought something like an amusement park might be fun, or maybe an all-inclusive resort. We would do this over the period of three days. What are some good ideas for a bachelor party on the east coast / florida for about 10 guys? I don't want to golf. Maybe some type of adventure / adrenaline rush? How can we have fun without going to jail or feeling guilty when coming home, while at the same time letting loose and getting wild? I am not averse to going to Mexico, Montreal, or Chicago. West coast is a little too far.

A dozen drunken idiots? Bachelor party help. I need to setup my brother's bachelor party for the first weekend in August, the 3rd through the 5th, which is going to take place somewhere in the tri-state area. He seems to want it to be a weekend long affair, something fun on Friday or Saturday night, and then an event the day after, possibly paintball, but that's about all he's offered. He does not want to do anything too cliche, eg. strip clubs, NYC bar crawls or gambling in AC. He expressed interest in going to a baseball game, but the Phils, O's and Mets are out of town that weekend; the Yankees are home, but are a tough ticket to get. I need some more ideas for something we can do, there will be a dozen of us, and alcohol will need to be involved at some point. The idea I recently brought up to him was women's roller derby in Philadelphia but he wasn't too keen. Thanks.

Memphis Bachelor Party: Need some ideas for things to do as well as details on activities from TN residents. I've got to organize a bachelor party in Memphis. However, I've never been there in my life and know no one who has. I need some ideas of 1) things to do and 2) places to eat. Here's my rough outline:

morning: Graceland (Is there anything I need to know about this?)

afternoon: Riverboat Gambling (where do I get on? Is it overrated?)

early evening: Strip Club (I have no idea about the establishments there. I want something nice and fun. Not extremely sleazy and not extremely hands off)

prime time: Beale Street (I'm thinking we're just gonna show up and this will be autopilot. Are there places to definitely go? Places to definitely avoid?)

I need filler items like good bbq joints, places I absolutely need to eat, fun stuff we can do hungover (like bowling), etc. I'm not thinking that we'll be interested in museums and stuff, but if there's something cool to see that is within our roaming area those suggestions are welcome as well.

BTW, we've got hotel rooms about 2 blocks north of Beale Street. I'm assuming that's pretty central.

How can I throw my best friend the greatest bachelor party ever in Myrtle Beach over Easter Weekend? My best friend has asked me to be his Best Man. With great power comes great responsibility, and I am in charge of his bachelor party. We used to go to Myrtle Beach at least once every year to cause trouble back when he was single, and so we're going back for one last drunken hurrah. I have a skeleton plan put together for the greatest bachelor party of all time, but I want to have lots of ideas in mind to fill in the blanks. I need your help!

What:
My best friend's bachelor party

When:
Easter Weekend (Thurs-Sun)
April 5th-8th

Who:

First things first:
We need a hotel! We'd like a hotel right on the strip (as long as the strip is still fun) within walking distance of the night life. We'd like to get a nice suite where the core group (6 people?) can stay, and everyone else in regular hotel rooms. It'd be awesome to get a suite everyone could fit in. We're not loaded though, so money is something of an issue. Suggestions?
Thursday night:
A small group of us would arrive and meet up around 8pm. We would want a casual dinner, and then go to some nice bars around the hotel. This group will be the 'core' group. Where should we eat? What bars would be the most fun?

Friday Morning:
Plan to go golfing at 10 or 11am. We'll probably do 2 foursomes with best ball. It'll be a 'brewers challenge' (every beer you drink takes a stroke off your score). Any idea what golf courses are the cheapest around there? And won't kick us out for our schenanigans?

Friday Evening:
The whole group will be together. We want to go to a nice rowdy dinner. Would love to find a fun restaurant with cute of-age waitresses to entertain us and make us feel special. Lots of beer will be drank. I'm currently thinking a place like Dick's but I want to make sure we get special attention. We're the kind of group who likes to hang out with our waitresses rather than have them 'stay out of the way'. Where should we eat?

Then we'd want to go to the bars again. We don't mind taking a cab if theres a good party going on somewhere. Again, if anyone can recommend a bar that will give us special treatment, thats perfect!

Saturday:
Paintball at PaintballUSA for the afternoon.

Saturday evening:
We'd like to go to a nice place, not so rowdy this time. Maybe a cool steak house or something. Anything unique is always a plus. Once again, special treatment is key.

For our last night, we'd like to do it up right, and have the most fun possible. I'm wide open for suggestions on activities for the night.

Sunday:
We'd grab breakfast and then head our separate ways to repent our sins.

Conclusion:
Do you have any suggestions for hotels/golf courses/clubs/bars/restaurants?

How about random things we should do over the course of the weekend to make it even more memorable? The skies the limit, I want my best buddy to never forget this night. Hell, I'd love to get like a camera person to follow us around or something like that if I knew where to begin on that. Any and all suggestions are welcome (we all have great senses of humor so friendly pranks are right up our alley)

Purple dress seen on the latest Bachelor... can you help me find it? (spoiler inside) While this might not be the best place to turn to, ask mefi has never failed me before... so I was just watching The Bachelor and the Itailian girl that he voted off tonight was wearing this purple, strapless dress that was gorgeous.

It's a longshot, but does anyone know where I can find this dress?

ps- I'm posting this from my brother's account. I'm not sure if has a profile, but I don't want anyone thinking he's a crossdresser. :) (not that there's anything wrong with that)

Bachelor Party idea (minus the strippers, prostitutes and copious drinking. I have to plan a stag/bachelor party for one of my best-friends near the end of this month.
Important info: The wedding is the 28th of October. We are all young 20something guys limited to about $100 each to pay (under 10 guys).
Twist info: We are all fairly opposed to the ideas of prostitutes, strippers, copious drinking or excessive gambling.
I need fun ideas that he can look back at fondly after being hitched to the ballandchain for 50 years.

Male-Bonding Activities in the DC Area

What would be a fun group activity for a bunch of thirtysomething guys in the Washington, DC area in the first week of October? It's for a bachelor party, but don't let that restrict the kind of thing you suggest. The groom has a quirky sense of humor. He loves videogames, movies, and kitschy pop culture stuff.To give you an idea, Dinosaur Kingdom would be perfect if it were closer to the metro DC area. We've got the whole day, so daytime and evening activities are both fine.

By the way, I've read the other AskMe threads on bachelor parties, so I have a lot of good general ideas. I'm hoping for DC-specific suggestions.

That aid, I'd rather have too many suggestions than too few, so all ideas--however half-baked they may be--are welcome.

Bachelor Party in Calgary

I am organizing a bachelor party to be held in Calgary, Canada and I could use some suggestions to increase the awesome. I don't live in Calgary and am flying in for the first weekend in June just for this. The basic plan is to find some activity for the afternoon like a shooting range/go-karts/ATVs, then a fancy dinner, and some drinks and poker in the evening. Probably not going to include any exotic dancing in the festivities unfortunately.

One other thing I'd like to do is rent a hot car for the groom to use for the weekend so he can travel in style. Any recommendations of rental places? Thinking either luxury, like a BMW, or a sports car.

Bachelor party in Louisiana. Places to stay? Lake house, cabin, boat, yacht, suggestions?

Planning a bachelor party in/or near Louisiana. Looking for either a lake house, boat or other to rent for ~17 people for the weekend. Not the typical New Orleans thing. Suggestions? We're looking for any place we can basically call our own for the weekend. All the camps, vacation houses, cabins, and boats I have found can't sleep nearly enough people (there will be about 17 people).

If you have a place I can rent, great.

We can drive a few hours if needed.

Do you have to have a Master's degree to get a Ph.D.? I was just reading this question and I noticed that the OP didn't even really acknowledge that they didn't have an MA and wanted to start a Ph.D. program.
Have I been living in a cave? I ask because I'm about to start my M.Div, on the long road to getting a doctoral degree, but why the hell am I spending all this money if I can just skip the Master's and go right to Dr. Balrog?
Of course, in that case I won't be Rev. Dr. Balrog, but I always thought that it was sort of an A -> B -> C sort of progression, with the Bachelor's leading to the Master's leading to the Doctorate.

I need a tile cleaning regimen!

What is a good, realistic tile cleaning regimen? Method, frequency, and implements... I hate to admit all of this, but I need help. I tore all of the linoleum out of my bathroom last year and replaced it with 3/4" Hexagon tiles. Now I have a ton of tiles and a ton of grout to keep clean but, to be honest, I really have no clue what the proper method is.

I found this thread but I'm affraid that I am even more novice than that poster. How often should I clean the tiles? What do I use? I tried spraying some tile cleaner and then scrubbing with a sponge but the grout eats up the sponge (little chunks come off) and then it never really gets totally clean. Is there some magic implement I am missing? So I just "spray and wipe" as the bottle says? That doesn't seem to work so well.

Roast Material

I'm going to be participating in a bachelor party roast in a week and a half and need some supplementary material. Obviously a great roasting of someone would be both personal and hurtful, but besides that, what are some good generic, fail-safe insults that I can hurl around? I'm thinking of that Jerry Stiller Roast where Jeffrey Ross said "I wouldn't fuck Sandra Bernhardt with Bea Arthur's dick." That's hilarious. Anyway, anyone done a little roast like this before? Advice? Suggestions? Good one-liners? Thanks.
