I have 2 different scenarios I need help with: 1. My sister is getting married and my husband and I have booked a hotel room near the venue. My toddler will likely not be able to stay up past 8, so I will bring her back to the hotel and put her to bed and then return to the wedding. We are hiring someone (college student/friend) to basically just sit in the hotel room with my sleeping toddler once I put her to bed (8-11ish). How much do we pay her to do this? 2. Starting in the fall, my husband and I will both need to leave the house in the morning by 7:15. Daycare does not open until 8. We'll need someone to come to our house in the morning around 7:00, hang out with toddler and then take her to daycare for 8:00 (daycare is about 10 minutes away). This would only be for 3 days a week. The person is potentially one of the ladies who works at the daycare (so she would be staying there, if that matters). How much do we pay this person? By the hour? Week? Accommodate mileage? Thanks!
My sister just saved our Hawaii vacation. How should we thank her? [more inside]
I graduated from college a while ago and have been trying to figure out what to do with my life ever since. While idly combing through job postings I found a few looking for a babysitter and thought "I could do that... maybe." I'm looking for advice on how to turn that tentative "maybe" into something more confident. [more inside]
I'm considering signing up with Care.com to supplement my regular freelance-writing gig -- I'm thinking babysitting and petsitting/dogwalking, both of which I have done before. Have you signed up with Care.com as a caregiver? Any tips? Is it worth it to pay for the background check, get First Aid- and CPR-certified, etc.? (Mine expired.) And parents, etc. -- what would your advice be on how to create a good profile on the site?
Mrs. Zooropa and I have a 17-month old, and are finally having a date night tomorrow night. We are new to the area, and have few friends and no family nearby. A co-worker of mine and his wife have agreed to babysit for us. Here's our quandary: do we pay them? [more inside]
I'm currently applying for nannying jobs and have been informed by my car insurance company that my policy does not cover me if I am transporting a client in my car, and that they do not offer coverage for business purposes. They gave me contact information for their parent company, who might be able to help, but the parent company is not available until Monday. I'm in California, if that matters. [more inside]
I said I'd baby sit, then pulled out with four weeks notice. How do I make this up to her? [more inside]
So I'm dating this single mom with a 6 month old. It's been going well but all our dates end with her rushing to take care of her baby - as a mom should. But she clearly needs a rest and I'm trying to figure out if I can take her on a vacation anywhere. Is there somewhere in the Northern California/Nevada area that is some kind of resort with stuff to do AND offers babysitting for a six month old as part of the package? Is there a name for resorts or vacations or recreation options like this? As a single guy with no kids I have no idea what the options are here. So please...educate me.
Most of my income now comes from babysitting, but I'd like to look for non-childcare jobs when my current gig ends in a few months. How do I make the transition into office work? [more inside]
Helping my boss' husband out with their 2 little kids while she's away. He snapped and pushed them away roughly (imagining hitting them, he told me later) and left me alone with the 2 inconsolable children. What can/should I tell my boss? HOW? Any good resources I can recommend to a couple with 2 terrible twos and many more meltdowns to come? [more inside]

The California law regarding Family Day Cares says I'm exempt from licensure if there's only one family in addition to my own children. Does this mean only one other family at a time, or over the course of some arbitrary period (a week, month, etc.)? [more inside]
I had to back out of my childcare job in a not-entirely-graceful manner for an emergency last week. Could I have handled this better? How do I proceed now? How should I proceed if something similar were to happen in the future? Snowflake details inside. [more inside]
I'm a mother (of a toddler) who works part time and is looking to make some extra money. I've considered babysitting jobs, but aside from raising my own son, I don't have much experience with kids aside from babysitting jobs I had when I was a teenager. No recent references. Could I get hired? [more inside]
I think someone (semi-falsely, read on) wrote that they paid me a nominal amount on their tax return filed this year. I did not file, and did not need to. Several questions about filing, residence, and liability follow, somewhat NYC specific. [more inside]

I have gotten myself in to what feels like an awkward position. I agreed to babysit the child of my husband's co worker once a week. The deal was that they would pay me $50 each time. I agreed because I was looking to take on a second job anyway, so this was perfect. We are going on three weeks at this point, in which I have not been paid. That part is obviously awkward enough, but the additional details make me feel pretty crappy. [more inside]

What is the current rate for babysitting 2 darling toddler girls - one is 3.5 and one is 2 years old. We live in the Nashua, NH area. Is it about $10/ hour? Also, what is the best way to introduce a teenager to your children? We've never used any babysitters besides grandparents before. What should I be looking for? What should I ask? Thanks!
