I'd like to buy a baby shower gift for a couple of soon-to-be parents who are really, sincerely strapped for cash. Please help me (a non-parent) come up with a list of absolute baby essentials that they can use during the first year or so.

x-mas gift idea for parents of toddler, who are having twins next month: "relaxing night in". Gift card for meal delivery service (anyone know a yummier version of omaha steaks?), some great new movie on dvd, CDs of soothing sounds for the babies (white noise, womb sounds, ocean sounds, etc). Trying to keep it under $150. I've heard omaha steaks are gross, so I'm looking for an alternative. Unless I should scrap the whole thing and get them...?

I work on salary for a tiny company in CA. I am pregnant. No one has ever been pregnant at my company, so I can propose a Maternity Leave plan that works for me and works for them. It's a very humane company, so I'm not concerned about the lack of legal protection. But what should I propose? What is "normal"? How much time off do people who love their jobs usually want?
