How to hard coat a baby crib?

We're expecting in late November, and we just received a very nice, slightly used crib from my cousin. Before giving it to us, my aunt and uncle gave it a fresh coat of paint, but the top layer chips off a bit too easily for my liking. The last thing I want is for our baby to get a mouthful of paint chips when he's big enough to pull himself up and chew on the rail. What kind of coating can I put on the crib to ensure a hard, baby-safe finish?

baby pigeons on my desc that were aparently abandoned

There are three young pigeons on my deck that have been there all day with no mother around. (at least as far as I can tell) They look like they are about 75% of the size of an adult pigeon, and are not flying. Is there anything I can do to help them or should I ignore this situation because it is out of my hands?

Broken baby: how long for recovery?

My baby girl, 7 months old, has a spiral fractured femur - mum caught her as she was falling while getting into a back carrier - she is in hospital, has had specialist orthopaedic paediatrician attention and is now in traction.
