Baby sleep problems galore with generally-great baby! What to do?

12.5-month-old Supercoolbaby was a very good sleeper from early on (she slept through the night at 2 months and carried on with that until about 10 months, but never more than 2 wakeups during the night), but recently some problems have developed. Would love your thoughts/advice. Many details within. [more inside]

Teach me to Sing Lullabies

I know the lullabies my mother sang to me, but I'd like to learn some more lullabies or lullaby-like songs (we can go broad, but I think "soft, sweet and slow" are our watchwords) that I can sing to our child. [more inside]

Graduated or total extinction? Yes, another sleep training question.

We're thinking of starting some sort of sleep training for our four month old. I know, she's young, but the "magical thinking" we have in getting her to sleep (hours of nursing, rocking, squats, singing, nursing) as well as the hourly (or even half-hourly) wake ups are not good for us, and they're not good for her. She really needs to sleep, and I can tell she really wants to. The question is, how? [more inside]

If baby leaves the train station headed west at 65 mph...

Calling all parents of metafilter! You once had a baby who didn't sleep well. Let's say this baby was six months old. We will call this point A. Now you have an older toddler or a child who sleeps through the night in her own bed. Let's call this point B. How did you get from point A to point B? [more inside]

WHY are you still awake? Sleep regression? Sneaking lattes?

*Baby filter* Our 11ish month old has had two super weird bedtimes ("happy happy party time! Hey, did you know I can make farting noises with my mouth? woohoo!") this week and I'm trying to figure out what might be going on, and more importantly what our options are for dealing with it. How can I help my friend come out to play with baby around?

I've only seen my best friend outside of his house twice this year. He and his wife have a 15-month-old baby boy, and they ignore, decline or don't make it to every social engagement because the baby might cry, or the baby is sleeping. They've all but stopped communicating with me. Help me understand why this is so hard for them, and if there is there any advice I can use or pass on that can help? [more inside]

Can I get my 11 month old to sleep through the night?

Very sleep deprived mom here at my wit's end, hoping you can help with strategy. Tried many different things without success. Baby wakes up 3-7 times a night to nurse back to sleep, has never slept through the night. Should we night wean? Sleep train? How to do this without too much pain and stress on either of us. Scared to sleep train, but really really really tired. [more inside]

14 month old waking crying at night for extended periods

My 14 month old baby has crying thrashing wakeful periods during the night on a semi-regular basis (roughly speaking, perhaps once every fortnight). He wakes up crying and can’t be consoled – arches his body and pushes away from me while in my arms (but cries harder if put down in his cot). [more inside]

Should I Pay for Baby Sleep Advice?

I'm considering paying for a sleep consultation (examples here and here) because we are getting pretty worn out with Baby Tafetta and her sleeping issues. Has anyone tried these? Is there someone else to recommend? Should I continue just reading random experts and waiting for things to get better? Is all of this really just because of the recent events of the past month and now we're just trying to get back to where we were? [more inside]

Baby sleep training for pukers?

My 6 month old baby has become increasingly difficult to put to sleep, and I feel like a failure every night. He was easy to put to sleep as long as he was swaddled, but now he fights going to sleep at most naps and especially at night. I feel like we need to do some kind of sleep training, but he's got horrible reflux and "crying it out" only results in him flipping onto his stomach, getting upset, not being able to turn back over, and then puking all over the crib. What should we do? [more inside]

Earplugs/muffs to block out a crying baby

In the next two weeks, there will be a new addition to our household -- a baby. (Not mine.) And since it's not mine, I would prefer not to hear it. There are lots of AskMes about earplugs, but many (like the ETY ones) use as a selling point that they don't muffle speech. I want to muffle everything. Best ear protection for the job, <$30?

Two kids, one bedroom: what should we know?

Right now, our 3-and-a-half-year old has her own room, and our one-year-old sleeps in Mommy & Daddy's bedroom. Next week, we're moving the baby into the toddler's room. What can we do to make the transition as painless as possible? How can we make this necessity into a positive experience for our kids? Are we crazy for even considering this?
