So....after months of prenatally following our daughter's heart issues and a year of post-birth cardiology visits it was determined that she did in fact need to have surgery to correct her issues and we are trying to keep it together while we wait for her surgery date and wondering what we can expect the day of and days following the surgery to be like and we can/should be doing for her and/or ourselves. I have a great four month old daughter. Due to a weird timing situation, both my husband and I have been home with her for the last four months, sharing duties. Also due to weird timing, we are moving around a lot. Our kid has no routine right now, and I'm started to think my mom is right that we're spoiling her. Help? [more inside]
My partner and I just found out last night that we have been chosen as adoptive parents to a baby... who is due in September! So, suddenly lots to do and lots to learn. Where do we even start?! Instruction manuals, blogs, scholarly articles, To Do Lists, To Don't Do Lists... What are the resources you found indispensable? Which did you find later that you wished you'd had earlier? Which are a waste of my time? We have wonderful family and friends who I know will help us figure all of this out, but I need to start building up my own arsenal of resources.
Due to a confluence of family occasions and holidays this summer, we'll be taking our baby on several trips over the next couple of months. We don't have our own car, and will be travelling via train some of the time, so would like to keep the amount of baby paraphernalia to a minimum. What's your best advice for travelling with a 4-5 month old? [more inside]
Baby #2 is coming at the beginning of August, and #1 will be almost 17 months. We're very excited, and wanted them close together, but I can't quite wrap my head around how it will actually work
. So great hive what are your tips, tricks and experiences handling two under two, or two very close together? [more inside]

We're planning to take our son to visit his grandparents for 4-5 days. He will be 4 months old. It's a 6 hour drive away. He's never spent the night away from home and the longest he's ever been in the car is 1 hour. What steps can we take to maximize our chances of a fun (and not especially sleepless) visit? Currently 10 weeks pregnant with our first. We are trying to brainstorm everything we can possibly do ahead of time to make maternity leave and the first weeks/months home with a newborn go as smoothly as possible. Some examples: buy a chest freezer and fill it with meals that can just be popped in the microwave or oven. Save up for doggie day care passes to get our dogs out of the house and tired out in the beginning.

Yay - we got married! We are looking for suitable destinations to go on our honeymoon sometime in late spring or summer. We'd like to go to Central America, Mexico or the Caribbean as neither of us has been there before. We'll be taking our wonderful son, who turns one in March with us, so we're looking for somewhere that is not too intrepid. Your suggestions please... [more inside]
I have a clingy little infant and have been using a ring sling with mediocre results. The problem is that it seems my infant's too floppy in the ring sling and I'm lusting after an Ergo. Is this a worthwhile investment or do I just need to figure out how to use the ring sling better/position my baby better? I'd like to be able to carry my baby while having complete use of my hands and--this is especially important--being able to bend over for cleaning, laundry, errands, etc. without having to use my hands or worry about slippage. And if your answer to the above is that I should get a non-ring sling carrier, is Ergo what you would recommend?
I'm considering paying for a sleep consultation (examples here
) because we are getting pretty worn out with Baby Tafetta and her sleeping issues. Has anyone tried these? Is there someone else to recommend? Should I continue just reading random experts and waiting for things to get better? Is all of this really just because of the recent events of the past month and now we're just trying to get back to where we were? [more inside]

My 6.5 week old baby wants to suck and suck. Attempts at introducing a pacifier have been met with gags. She tries to get her fingers in there but just can't quite coordinate it. That leaves me. My wife and I will be visiting New Orleans at the end of this month with our almost 1-year old son. Having the baby with us has required two contingencies: we are renting a car, and our days will have to end by 6:30 or 7 pm-ish (although they do start at 6:30-7am). We will also need to find a quiet place for him to nap during the day, or else sit in the car/return to our lodging for an hour or so. I am hoping he'll nap in the stroller as we wander the city, but can't take this for granted. Given this, and the fact that we only have two days (Friday-22 and Monday-25, the weekend is taken up by the wedding we are travelling for) how best to organize our time? Any advice on travelling with an infant? [more inside]
In November, I will be flying to Paris, then going to Barcelona and taking a cruise from there to New Orleans with my husband and our 12 month old girl and possibly two other adults. What are your tips for a successful vacation with a young child? [more inside]
Mrs. Thabombshelter and I have a four month old son and would love to eat more meals that aren't takeout. Plus, with a baby, money is obviously a valuable and precious commodity. My wife and I are thinking of heading to Iceland for our summer vacation. This year will be a little different as we will be traveling with our 14month old. Since are on the East Coast the flight to Iceland is reasonably quick and Iceland is quicker than some domestic locations
We hope to rent a house in the south eastern part of Iceland in late May or early June. We will use the house as our base and do some small day trips from there. Our only goal for the vacation is to enjoy the scenery and see a few things. We are going to travel light and purchase most food and diapers there.
Any hints, tips, and tricks traveling to Iceland with an infant. What can we expect in terms of availability of conventional baby foods and diapers? Anything else we should know?

We're Brits in Washington DC about to have our first baby! We have bicycles but don't own a car (use Zipcar / taxis). All the standard baby-prep advice seems to assume owning a car... so do you guys have any tips for car-free baby living? In particular: car seats (for occasional use / quick installation), diaper services and bike trailers? Details inside! [more inside]
I'm leaving my 7 month old baby with his other mom for three days. This will be the first time I'm away from him for longer than a couple of hours, and the first time I won't be able to nurse him. Google and Google Scholar are not helping me answer this. I'd like to know what the typical/bell curve range of attention span and play episodes (not eye contact) are for infants and young toddlers (under 2). I can find decent info for older kids, but all the child development studies I've found seem to assume an implicit range for "short/long". I'm especially interested in solitary play episode length with a single object.
I have been married for around 5 years, it's a good marriage. My wife suffers from depression, which has made it difficult at times, however we have worked through these periods.
