My 4.5 month old is getting too big for his cradle and the time has come for us to decide: crib or floor bed? Does anyone have any experience with having a baby sleep on a "
Montessori bed" or mattress on the floor rather than in a crib? Do you have any advice to offer?

Our little baby boy has been in the NICU for the past 8 days and should be released in a less than a week. Should we opt for the drop-side or standard fixed-side crib? My man's 6'2 and I'm 5'9, so I'm thinking the drop-side may be nice for putting down the (soon-to-be) baby when he gets heavier (especially if I'm pregnant again by then)!

We're expecting in late November, and we just received a very nice, slightly used crib from my cousin. Before giving it to us, my aunt and uncle gave it a fresh coat of paint, but the top layer chips off a bit too easily for my liking. The last thing I want is for our baby to get a mouthful of paint chips when he's big enough to pull himself up and chew on the rail. What kind of coating can I put on the crib to ensure a hard, baby-safe finish?
