Is my sleep training dream possible? Inside, I describe what I would like to achieve, and what happens now. What's the closest approximation of my dream? How do I get there? Which of the many sleep training resources (books, blogs, gurus, consultants) would be most helpful in figuring this out? [more inside]
How could I possibly leave my baby to go back to work? And yet, tons of people have done it, including many I work with. How?? ... And then on the other hand, how could I quit working? (Long -- feel free to skip ahead to the question section.) [more inside]
My delightful three month old doesn't know how to drink from a bottle. I'll drip milk in his mouth, and he'll get interested enough to take the bottle nipple in his mouth for a second, but it seems like his typical tongue action just pushes the nipple back out again? Is there a better nipple to try? Is there a specific way to hold the bottle that'll help him? [more inside]
My first child was born a few days ago, and I'm worried I'm not doing enough to capture how beautiful he is and how special these days are. Should I pay a photographer? Other ideas? Reassurance and perspective? [more inside]
Help us get a young toddler and a baby to sleep at roughly the same time in the same room. Is it possible? Snowflake details inside. [more inside]
I am bedsharing with my 6-month-old. I have a plan to end this in a few months, but I'd love some guidance from those who've done it themselves. [more inside]
Most of our friends have kids under age five. We're considering whether and how to make our wedding a kid-friendly event. Have you seen this done? Have you tried it? As a parent, what would help? Or do you just want a night out? Would anything make you more likely to stay overnight for more fun the next day? [more inside]
Many people I know who aren't global warming skeptics are still planning to procreate. Though I might like to have a kid someday, the thought of their future quality of life strikes me as a potentially decisive ethical objection to it. While I've seen plenty of arguments against procreation that deal with the ethics of creating more consumers, that issue is distinct from the ethics of creating new sufferers. Can you point me to any well-reasoned arguments--whether yours or something you've seen, on either side of the issue--that deal with the ethics of choosing to bring children into a hotter world? My husband and I are expecting our first child, a girl, due in 2 months and are having a serious naming dilemma. We are both worried about the possibility of our chosen name leading to teasing. [more inside]
When I got pregnant, my brother and sister-in-law immediately offered SIL as our daycare provider as she'd be at home with their baby anyway. Sweet! Now I'm 2 months from going back to work, however, and she's getting (understandable) cold feet about the idea of caring for 2 babies at the same time. Not sweet. :( Looking for suggestions on how our families can make this work, because trying to figure out a different daycare/nanny option in the next 2 months is giving me hives (plus I'd love for my son to be cared for by family if possible). Wall o' relevant details inside... [more inside]
My first child is turning 6 months soon and I've been home with him since he was born. It's finally starting to settle in that this is my job now. Other stay-at-home parents: what do you do all day, and how do you stave off the boredom, loneliness, and exhaustion that come with the territory? Some snowflake details inside. [more inside]
We'd like to at least consider cloth diapering twins, mainly for environmental reasons (which, by the way, Is it totally settled that cloth diapering is greener? We live in SoCal so water is more of an issue than in most areas). Has anyone tried it, either with singletons and multiples, and would you recommend it for twins? If so, any specifics on brands/methods/tips would be great.
We are expecting (twins) and we are devouring parenting books. We're not overly beholden to these books - we trust our own instincts. But it seems like a lot of these books are anecdotal, or old-fashioned. We'd love to find a book that is modern, research/data-driven, and at least a little enjoyable to read. The kind of book that someone who enjoys Lifehacker, RadioLab, BoingBoing, etc. would respond to. Any suggestions?

My (toddler?) 16 mo old son has developed a new habit at bath time: standing. While he has been a little hesitant to go walking solo outside the tub -- inside the tub he has suddenly become enthralled with the idea. Any suggestions on how to handle what has become a standing.. sponge bath? [more inside]

I'm looking for suggestions for monosyllabic girl names that are more unique/interesting than things like "Ann" or "Jane" or "Sue" but still familiar enough that my as-yet-unnamed fetus won't have to go through life spelling out BOTH her first and last names for people. (She'll have my husband's last name to deal with--something like Dziewolrgjeoaezkxyzski.) [more inside]
Give me your baby hacks! My wife and I are expecting our first child in November. What tips and tricks can you offer us to make our lives a lot easier? For example, a friend of mine swears that putting a crying baby in front of a mirror will cause it to stop. Another uses noise cancelling headphones to temper the noise from his shrieking child. I am looking for hacks on everything from diaper changing to stroller modifications. Make our lives easier as we enter into parenthood.

Babyfilter: How do I throw a fun first birthday party for my son without hiring any corny/lameass entertainment to occupy the under-5 crowd? I'd like the adults to enjoy themselves, too. Is my plan to have each parent swing their kid around in a giant game of baby-foosball doomed to fail?
This summer I'll be traveling with an infant from New Jersey to Florida (Tampa Bay area/Tarpin Springs). I've gone to a few sites and picked up a book, but I was hoping for some personal tips/stories from parents that might not have been gone over before. Also, which would be better, traveling by car train or plane? Thanks!
