What are your experiences with Richmond American Homes?

What are your experiences with Richmond American Homes? We're thinking about having a home built by Richmond American Homes (specifically something in the under $200,000 range in Gilbert, AZ) and we were wondering what the company is like. Have you dealt with them in the past? What are they like over the long term? Lots of details are very welcome.

Thanks!

Shooting Pool in Lake Havasu City, Vegas

I want to shoot some pool in Lake Havasu City, AZ, and in Vegas.

But I'd like to go to the nicest place possible, in both locales. Recommendations? I'm going on a trip in Feb. that'll take me through Las Vegas (twice) to Lake Havasu City, AZ.

I love to shoot pool. But I hate hanging around in smoky, run-down bars. (Yes, I know that Vegas is smoky, but is there a nice place with lots of nice tables, at least?)

Are there well-maintained pool joints in either city that I can have a nice meal in and shoot a few racks?

(And would anyone be interested in a meetup built around this idea?)

endothermic or exothermic?

Apartment filter: I need my apartment to be cool inside! We moved into a very nice 3rd (top) floor, west facing apartment... in March... came home in June and no exaggeration, it was 94 degrees in my living room. The AC has a 20 degree difference and runs nonstop from 4pm to 11pm and its 84 degrees in the bed room till 11pm. We’ve had the maintenance people out three times. There’s a 20 degree difference between intake and output. The filters are new. Everything on the roof looks fine. But more than 2 feet from the vent and you can’t feel it anymore.

All the ceiling fans are going 24/7. The floor fan is on whenever we're home and not asleep. The sliding glass door is covered by UV/light blocking tinting designed for RVs, venetian blinds, and a blanket. The office window has venetian blinds and a blanket. The bedroom window has venetian blinds and very thick light blocking curtains. The AC is always set on 78. We cannot make any modifications that are visible from the outside.

Do you think it’s worth another $100 to tint the other two windows? The heat has to be coming through the walls, right?

I live in the Phoenix area, opening the windows after dark will not help. Moving is not an option till March and we still like everything else about the apartment.

What else can we do?! I’m not looking for stop-gap solutions like a bucket of ice water in front of a fan. I want my apartment enjoyable. There is no reason I should have a $230 electric bill for a 980 sq ft apartment when my parents have a $380 bill for a 5 bedroom house! Our electric bill in April was $76!

Help us mefi, you're our only hope!

What goodies do we need from Phoenix, AZ? Husband is going there for a few days in July, and we're trying to think of what treats he ought to bring back to New England - stuff we can't find here at home. Cactus Cooler soda and prickly pear jelly/candy are all I can think of. See's Candies would be wonderful, but would not travel well. Any other regional favorites? Thanks in advance!

My wife and I are in Sedona, AZ for New Year's Eve. What should we do? We're eating at Yavapai in a couple hours, but we've nothing special planned to ring in the new year...

Any Sedona MeFites know of anything?
Bonus Question: We love the red & green chilis? Any hot tips on where to eat breakfast/lunch?

Another reason to hate AT&T

I live in Mesa Arizona. Recently, several churches have had or/are having these giant cross shaped cell towers installed on church property. I can't tell you how much this bothers me. First and foremost they are eyesores. When I step out into my front yard and look at what used to be sky, there is a gigantic white cross.

I can't believe they do not violate some building law about the height a structure can be. I suspect because they are cell towers receive an exception. I spoke with the city and they said that AT&T has gone through the approval process and there is no turning back now. Apparently AT&T leases the space and pays a monthly fee to the church.

It just seems so weird to me, that a corporation is paying for a tax-exempt companies gigantic logo. Shouldn't they lose their tax-exempt status? I can't put my finger on it, but it just seems wrong to me.

Has anyone dealt with anything like this? Any suggestions on how to get rid of these or at least stop any more from being erected?

Where to get my birthday ink?

Please help me make the best choice for a tattoo parlour in the Tempe, AZ area for my first ink. I will be in Tempe, AZ from September 14-18 for KoL Con IV. While I'm there, my birthday will occur, and I'd like to get my first ink. I want a small (1x1) solid-colour square, preferably in a vivid colour (bright blue, lime green, or pink) on my hip (yes, that is a pun, yes, this is a real question). Could you give me a reccomendation for your favourite shops in the area, and if you have any clue, what I should expect to pay?

Thanks in advance. :)

Moving-cross-country-filter

Do you have any recommendations on how to move from NYC to Tuscon? I'd like to use movers, although I have no idea where to start. Do you have any moving companies you'd recommend? Are there cheaper options that I should know about (hiring a shipping container, etc.)? Are there companies I should avoid?
Arizona Tree-filter.

Tree-filter: on I-10, between Phoenix and Tuscon (near Eloy), the interstate cuts right through some sort of tree farm / grove. What kind of trees are they? We flew to Phoenix and then drove to Tuscon this weekend for a wedding. Near Eloy we passed through a grove of very evenly spaced, identically-sized trees.

They were much bigger than any other trees in the area. I have no idea how high they stood, but they had dark green leaves and the branches sort up jutted upwards from the trunk rather than hanging horizontally and downwards.

Does anyone know what the trees are?
