Insurance Filter

Mrs. Ivan and I need new insurance on our home and autos. I'm in Oklahoma, and trying to dodge the "Actual Cash Value Endorsement" scam. I'm really looking for help in research: looking for best value/best coverage for the dollar, of course. Any recommendations as to research avenues? [more inside]

Oregon 51% Bar Rule - If I am 50% at fault, why can't I collect?

I was found 50% at fault for a recent vehicle sideswipe. My insurance company is stating they did me a favor in awarding me this percentage, as it was a he said-she said situation where no one could be proven completely at fault. I do not have collision coverage, so I don't expect payment from that. However, when I asked about receiving payment for damages to my car from the other drivers liability coverage, I was told that I would not receive anything due to Oregon's modified comparative negligence law. Auto Insurance Deductible Questions

I was recently involved in an auto accident. The accident was the other driver's fault, but he apparently is not insured. I have insurance (through USAA) that includes uninsured motorist coverage with a $250 deductible, as well as collision coverage with a $500 deductible. After researching insurance issues here and elsewhere, I'm still unclear on a couple of points. Questions below! [more inside]

Was rear-ended last week and my car is damaged. Insurance questions

I was rear-ended on the highway last week while sitting in traffic. Neither myself nor the other driver was injured but there was damage to my car. The other driver and his insurer (State Farm) have accepted full responsibility without question, as I was stopped and he hit me. There was no police report. I haven't had to involve my insurance as I wasn't at fault (per myself, per the other driver and now also per his insurer). [more inside]

Filing a car insurance claim with unreported previous damage

I was in a fender-bender that was indisputably the other driver's fault, but I'm not sure how to proceed with the insurance claim because there was already some mild prior damage to my car from a couple of scrapes in my house's treacherous driveway that I never brought to my insurer's attention. Can I get in trouble with my insurance company (USAA) for failing to report those minor solo collisions, and how much will it complicate a claim against the at-fault driver's insurance? [more inside]

Costco insurance--Auto and renter's policies

A few weeks ago, I asked whether I should join Costco, and on your recommendation, I did (and am quite happy). Several people mentioned the Costco-branded insurance (underwritten by Ameriprise). There are both auto and renter's lines of insurance available, and my existing policies with another carrier are coming up for renewal. How is the insurance coverage and customer service on the Costco policies (or with Ameriprise in general)? Did you actually save the money you were expecting? Are there other carriers we should consider? [more inside]

Michigan Auto Insurance - Can Premium Rise b/c of Not-At-Fault Accident?

In the state of Michigan, USA, can your auto insurance [liability+collision+comprehensive] premium be increased as a result of a collision claim for which the driver/policyholder is judged 'not at fault' by the police or court? I thought that it could, but I have a friend who is sure it cannot. Can any of you provide a definitive answer?
