It's my car! Now what?

I am about to own my first car that's actually mine. No, this isn't a car-purchasing question. This is a, "What else do I need to know?" question. [more inside]

working on a car - on a gravel driveway

I want to do minor maintenance on my cars (oil changes, brake checks, and so on), but I don't have a garage to do it in or a concrete driveway. All I have is a gravel / dirt driveway to work on. I would like to jack up my cars (and put them on jack stands), but I'm not comfortable at all doing it on this kind of surface. How can I do this without putting myself in harms way? [more inside]

Old car with low miles = dry rot or not?

I just inherited a 1998 Mountaineer that has only 20,000 miles. It's never been tuned up and still has the original tires. I'm pretty sure the spark plugs are fouled because it's never been driven at highway speeds. Everything appears to be in great shape. What kind of problems can I expect from this car? [more inside]
