Tomorrow morning I'm meeting with someone to talk about implementing a local scheduling/database application. Most everything I know about the project suggests it's something I could do in my sleep. Thing is, I desperately need the money, I don't know how much to "bid," and I have a long history of undervaluing my work. How much should I ask for?

I would like to write some basic software that, without any user input at all, simulates an event such as a crew traveling in space.
What do I need to learn in order to get from the "if launch was successful then print 'CONGRATULATIONS'" stage to the "if crew member #3 is depressed and she is co-pilot, then set $mistake_likelihood higher" level of detail?

Microsoft Word and a table of contents across multiple files: my sister has to deliver her book as a series of Word files, one per chapter. In order to meet the
house style (pdf), she's created a specific heading in Word to match their 'A' headings. She wants to generate a separate Table of Contents compiling all those headings into one linked ToC file. Is that possible?

I tend the website of a small nonprofit. Some of our board members would like authoring tools to put bylaws and policies out for the board and have it accept revisions by a restricted set of users.

I've just bought a CD-Burner from ebay. No maker's mark on it, so how can I tell what model it is? (lots of serial numbers all over it). Also, I need a good CD burning program. Can anyone recommend any free applications?
