Lawyer in which country?

For an Australian citizen thinking of moving to the United States, is it better to see an immigration lawyer in Australia, or one in the US, for consultation? This assumes that one is currently in Australia, but travels occasionally to the US. [more inside]

Aussie bank urine test

I know that American employers conduct urine drug tests all the time, but what about Australian employers? I was recently offered a bank job in Sydney, and will have to undergo a "medical examination" before starting. The information sheet says nothing about drugs, but does mention a urine test. Will they test for cannabis, and if so, should a month (after pretty much semi-daily use) be long enough to be in the clear?

Should I do Adult VCE?

Considering taking an Australian Year 12 course as an adult in order to improve my prospects for getting into my course of choice... but I already finished high school in another country. Pausing my life for a year

I'm a twenty-something American guy who has been considering an extended trip to Australia, ever since I visited for a few weeks in 2008. Last night I decided to be bold and finally applied for a Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462). I woke up and found the visa approval email in my inbox. Talk about fast! Excellent... so now what? How do I pause my established life and go on an adventure? How do I let people know, especially at work? I have a fair amount of stuff tying me down at home, but I think I need to leave in a few months or it's never going to happen. [more inside]

Does Australian credit record follow you to New Zealand?

I currently live in Australia, but my boyfriend and I are planning to move to New Zealand in the near future. Unfortunately, I went through a messy divorce so my credit record here in Australia isn't very good. We're moving overseas to leave the rat race behind and ideally have a fresh start, but I'm worried my bad credit is going to follow me. [more inside]

Dual-Citizenship Planning for Future Children

My fiancee (soon to be wife) and I are planning on getting pregnant in 2006. Because we are smart people we have discussed the possibility of having the child born in a foreign country (we are both American) which would give him or her the advantage of dual-citizenship. [more inside]
