Landshark.com What the heck did they do? Just saw August the movie and I still don't know. They died in the dot com bubble. I'm really curious as to what their company did exactly. The movie wasn't much help. 7/10 on the movie. Didn't show enough excess like there was in SF back in 2000. Lack of Fooseball and/or upright video games and little mention of technology... Great acting, poor script. BTW Josh Hartnett is in it for the ladies.

Warm August Nights

HoneymoonFilter: Searching for relaxed beach spot for August 2008. Bonus points for citing specific resorts/hotels/villas. Sadly none of the previous honeymoon/beach posts quite did the trick. Trying to use the following criteria:

1) Warm, but not scorching. Must be able to sunbathe and swim for a good part of every day.
2) Brief daily rain OK. All day rain or hurricanes not OK.
3) Snorkeling and beginner/intermediate surfing a big plus.
4) All-inclusive OK, but gigantic Disneyland-like hotels not OK.
5) Preferably no 18-24+ hour travel days. We're traveling either from Duluth or NYC -- so sadly this rules out sweet places like Fiji, Bali, and the like.
6) Hoping to avoid places where the US dollar is laughably weak.

The Caribbean or Central America would be ideal, but we worry about hurricane/intense heat situation. But perhaps some places thereabouts have more manageable weather?

Vacation Ideas for August

My girlfriend and I are taking a week vacation in early August, somewhere in North or Central America, where should we go and what should we do? We are taking around a week of freedom before I start law school in the fall, and we'd like to hit up somewhere neither of us have been before.

Ideas we've tossed around so far:
Belize, Tulum & Playa del Carmen or Pacific Coast Mexico, Prince Edward Island, Caribbean Islands, Costa Rica, US Rockies

We're looking for:
Relaxing, beach/water, sailing (possibly), scuba diving (possibly), hiking, camping, good food (but no seafood), local flavor (think ruins or history more than museums), nicer than a hostel but not an all inclusive resort style, either North or Central America.

Obviously, there's a wide variety of things we're looking at, but we're sure we haven't thought of all the possible cool ideas yet. What can AskMe come up with?

Where should we go in August?

Where should two women go in August for about two weeks? A friend and I want to take a trip this summer. We're open to lots of different experiences, but would prefer that it not be too, too hot or too, too crowded. Places we're considering include Iceland, Norway, Nova Scotia, and Glacier National Park (Canada). Any experiences in these places or other ideas? Thanks, Mefites!

Indonesia: Should I go? How long for and where? What about a visa? 18,000 islands await me... Following up on these past two askmefi questions, I have decided to fly to Bali come August.

The visa situation sounds quite complicated. Can I really only get a 30 day pass without leaving and re-entering the country?

If I arrive and find some likely travel companions I hope to go East through the more remote islands. If I arrive and find myself travelling alone I will likely go West and up towards Malaysia.

All advice gladly accepted. Anyone wanna join me :) ?

Dr. Strangelove Travels

San-Diego-business-trip-filter Guten Tag, the good Dr. Strangelove will in San Diego half-day August 6th, all day on the 7th, business on the 8th... What to do with the free time? Strangelove can see the zoo (prison), go to Mexico (don't take the rental car!!!!) or...?
Any suggestions?
The Doctor is 24 and looking for something cool to waste time with, it is not only possible, it is essential!
The ocean is an idea, but the Doctor would have just returned from Mexico, Atlantic side, a couple of days before SD, so he may be ocean-out. Would not mind a nice restaurant by the beach to drink cheaply though…(is it safe to drink on the beach with a book?)
As well, what should be expected of SD and Mexico near SD?
