Where to run wires for living room audio?

How to lower peaks/raise valleys on an audio clip?

I'm a journalist; I record all my phone interviews, outputting them as WAV files. I just did one, and for reasons I can't determine, the audio levels are haywire - my input (when I'm asking questions) is eardrum-breaking loud; the answers to the questions are whisper-quiet. I'm trying to figure out how to remedy this automatically; flatten the peaks and boost volume on the whole thing; or flatten the peaks and raise the valleys (or another solution?) I'm on a Mac.

How to record two people at once who are walking without a third person recording it?

I need to record two people at the same time. I can't follow them around with a boom mic and I don't want them to be attached at the hip with a splitter to one recorder plus 2 lapel mics. How do I record two people, walking around, talking to each other? Do I need two recorders? AND if I have two recorders, how much of a pain will it be to edit the material/will it sound weird? How is this normally done? It is for the radio. [more inside]

I need audiobook recommendations!

I need some new audiobooks! I'm a screen printer and find that listening to an audiobook helps me to focus and get more done during the day and consequently, I get through 3-4 books a week. I'll listen to just about anything (science fiction, biographies, western, you name it), as long as it's engaging but doesn't require too much concentration. I've listed my favorites below. Tell me what you've enjoyed listening to and what I've been missing! [more inside]

Music makes me feel like...

I'm looking for audio of people saying interesting things about making or listening to music -- movies, youtube videos, hip-hop albums, tv shows, doesn't matter. I'm especially interested in people talking about how music or dancing makes them feel or why they make music, more than details of how they make it.

Seriously though it's hilarious.

Wizard People, Dear Reader literally made me laugh out loud at work. What other (free!) long format audio parodies, comedies, etc. should I try? I am not looking for traditional audiobooks and I'm not looking for unscripted or conversational podcasts. I'm also not looking for stand-up comedy routines. Fan Fiction is fine as long as it is relatively well done and hilarious.

Home theater audio advice?

Are there any flaws in my home theater audio plans? I own the LG 50PK550 TV which I love, but the internal speakers are predictably terrible. I'm starting from scratch with audio as I currently have no components. I was considering just a two speaker solution, but I've decided after spending the day browsing AVS that I'm likely going for a full 7.1 system. Price to performance ratio is extremely important to me though, I want something I'll be happy with and that will last, but I'm not willing to spend $100s more for minor gains. I don't have a strict budget but the cheaper the better (for a good product). [more inside]
