I am about to wire some audio cables in my wall. It's two 1/4" jacks, stereo, one is microphone and the other headphones, going to a recording computer in a different room. Need help figuring out the proper parts. [more inside]
I'm interested in making perfectly-looping Vine videos of me playing guitar riffs. I'd like to shoot and edit these videos on my phone (iPhone 5, iOS 8.1), without using a desktop editor. Is there an app that allows you to hear audio while editing?.... [more inside]
I often listen to audio books on CD in my 2014 Subaru Impreza. When I turn the CD player on, the volume doesn't start at full blast -- it sort of fades in. And when I turn the CD player off, the sound doesn't stop instantly -- it fades out. I find this annoying. Is there some setting that I can adjust to make the CD player come on and off instantly? I looked through the manual, but I couldn't find anything, and I'm finding it hard to Google. Thank you!
I have 3 questions about it! [more inside]
Do you own headphones with these qualities? Tell me the specs! Please help me find wireless noise isolating headphones in the $50-$150 range. I will only pay near the upper end if there's a sufficient warranty and they isolate EXTREMELY well! I want these for using at home to study and relax. I'm looking for the title of a audio-cassette album I owned sometime in the 1990s, which had the themes of various Star Trek movies and, particularly, tracks of sound effects of the ships warping that I believe were unique to the tape (as opposed to having been taken from the films). [more inside]
I'm looking for free audio files online that could be used for practicing EQ and other processing tools. [more inside]
I recorded my friend's rock concert on MiniDisc and ended up with some audio issues. How can I find someone reliable and talented enough online who can work with audio files to bring out their best? (I live in a small town so I doubt anyone local can do it.)
This question is a follow-up to this one I asked recently. Having purchased the H4n through Amazon, which came with a cd for the required Cubase program by Steinberg, I'm now trying to register as directed by product info (apparently there's a 30-day window of opportunity). What an Alice-in-Wonderland nightmare I'm in. [more inside]
I'm craving music that has as little sound as possible. I feel like the music that I've encountered all my life rarely has long chunks of silence. I want music that respects silence, tiptoes around it, and very, very rarely intrudes upon it. I want those intrusions to be perfect as well. Does anything come to mind? [more inside]
I'm a researcher with no film experience, and am beginning to think about an oral history project, which best case would become a short film. The theme is regional accents, so audio quality is important. [more inside]
I am starting an on line class next week that requires a headset/mike with earmuffs and a USB connector. This is not as simple as I would like it to be. [more inside]

I'm looking for a camcorder or camcorder/microphone setup to record my band's practices and shows for uploading to YouTube. [more inside]
I recently bought a used "compact component system" home stereo. It had two parts - one is the volume/sound setting and cassette deck combo. The other half is a CD and radio combo. The CD part was busted though. Ideally I'd like to replace the entire CD/radio section. Can you recommend me a good replacement for that section or recommend a better way to complete my system which lacks CD capabilities? [more inside]
I'm looking for a good source of info on selling subscription-based streaming audio. [more inside]
My husband's birthday is coming up! For work, he drives and talks on the phone A LOT. How can I make make it safer - and nicer - for him to make and take calls while driving? I would also love to hear recommendations for other car-life luxuries that make a difference. [more inside]
What is it about the audio in old radio or TV broadcasts that makes them identifiable as "old"? [more inside]
Somewhat-obscure-filter, but I'm looking to generate a list of compelling audio/radio documentaries that use no or little music, but lots of other kinds of sound, to tell a story. [more inside]
My nearly-full 120GB iPod classic just bit the dust. What are my best options for replacing it, given that an equal or greater storage capacity is required? [more inside]
My stereo mostly dates from the mid 90's. It was originally an Onkyo component system (tuner, amp, 6-CD changer, tape deck) with JBL speakers. About 5 years ago the amp gave out and I bought another Onkyo system on Craig's List, replacing the amp and adding a subwoofer. This system has served me well, but technology has progressed and I live in a 3BR townhome now, not a dorm room. [more inside]
I want to start listening to audiobooks on long hikes and drives. Specifically I'd like to start with an unabridged "Lord of the Rings," but eventually others. How do I obtain them as plain mp3s? [more inside]
My Digitech Studio Quad 1u rackmount box gets unhappy over time (hours). As it warms up, the input levels drop and it becomes unusable. Turned off for a few hours, it comes back to life. Is this terminal or repairable? Should I get something new? Is there a comparable product (multiple ins/outs, flexible routing)? [more inside]
I need examples of training courses that use HTML5 audio on an iPad. more below! [more inside]
Two of the broadcast channels in my area (think lower mid-market) have some serious audio issues described after the jump. Is it amateurish compression? [more inside]
There's an interview archived on mpr (NPR MN) that I'd love to download and be able to listen to "offline". I tried determining the url, but they seem to be using some tricky relay or switching servers or something. A search did turn up an "NPR Stream Recorder" by company called Abyssmedia, but couldn't find any reviews as to whether it works currently and is free from pesky adware or worse.
What audio filters and/or effects would best simulate the unpleasant stuffy sound of having water in your ears? I'm more interested in the impression of stuffy ears than a technically accurate simulation of what's going on in the ear canal.
So i have a bit of a weird one here. I'm aware that there are speakers that can pair to eachother so you can use two as a stereo sound pair, or just two at once(E.G. jambox mini, beats pill XL). What i'm looking for though, is sort of the reverse. [more inside]
I want to create multi-page content consisting of text + spoken-word-audio, viewable on iPhone. Content consumption would work as follows: 1. Page displays text and plays audio (additional tap to launch audio would be okay) 2. User taps something to call up next page. My first thought was Powerpoint, but I haven't found an iPhone app that handles audio embedded in PPT. I'm limited to working on my Windows PC, so I think Keynote is out. Any thoughts on a format to use for the content, and app to use to consume it? [more inside]

As part of my doctoral research, I will be conducting interviews with Skype for transcription and analysis. I've heard good things about Audio Hijack Pro as a tool to record audio from Skype -- both from online reviews and from faculty mentors. I've installed the latest version of Skype on my MacBook Air and am currently using the trial version of Audio Hijack Pro (I expect to pay for the full version if I can get the demo working). It works, BUT, I am consistently hearing a horrible echo and feedback when I am hijacking the audio on my Skype test calls. Help! (help...help...help...) [more inside]
Is there some sort of setup using both wireless headphones and stereo receiver with surround sound whereby two people can watch TV together at different volumes? [more inside]
Is there a relatively painless* way to pull audio off of a site like this, without using the analog loophole? [more inside]
(1) What's a cheap just plain record player that can output via rca cables? (2) Anyone know any good software or apps for doing that on a PC or mac? Just figuring something might already exist to detect different tracks. [more inside]
I need basically this. I'd rather order it from closer to home. My searches for this type of cable in the US haven't turned up anything, and I don't know enough about electronics to figure out what other names it might go by. I think it's a common type of cable so there must be something I'm missing. Thanks!
This must be straightforward, but somehow I can't seem to figure this out as someone who's just not very familiar with audio equipment of any sort. (Sorry!) [more inside]
Piggybacking on/not hijacking betelguese's question, which is over my head, what do I need to tell my contractor about networking the house we are currently building? Please explain it like I am a 5-year old/your mother. [more inside]

I have a recently renewed thirst for travel, having read a couple of fantastic travelogues recently. I also have a regular hour-a-day walk to and from work, plus several opportunities to listen to good audio during the day. I'd love to listen to some podcasts on travel, food, language and discovering the world. [more inside]
I've been asked to write summaries of some recordings of meetings. Problem is, whoever recorded it had the microphone in his shirt or his pocket or something, and there's impossible rustling preventing me from hearing what they're saying half the time! Especially when someone asks a question and they start explaining details. Is there any software I can run these sound files through to reduce some of that?
I'm hearing some odd noise in my office audio system and I'd like an opinion on what it could be. It appeared right after I replaced three old Shure SCM810 mixers with new versions of the same model. They are usually soft, as heard in this short clip here) but the occasionally sound much louder and become quite noticeable. It reminds me of the interference from Blackberry devices but it's clearly different. Could this be interference from some other device or is something else going on here? Thanks in advance.
I'd love to have an audio version of the Christian Bible that allows you to pick a specific chapter or specific verses and listen to them -- ideally in a recorded voice, not not a text-to-speech generator. I have a Kindle version of the Bible that I really like -- it's easy to navigate to a specific chapter and verse through the Kindle table of contents and menus. It's an NRSV translation from Harper Bibles. Are there any audio versions of the Bible that have similar functionality?
