What is the best way to keep electronic devices that are in enclosed areas cool? (ie. stereo receiver, game console, etc).
I'm just got a new AV cabinet/stand that is a lot smaller than my previous one and my components are getting a lot warmer than they used to. My receiver has about 1" leeway on each side and about .5" on top. 1/3 of the rear of the cabinet is open. I also have my HTPC in there as well as my Xbox 360.
Anyone know of a simple way to keep them cooler (without adding noise or uglyness to my setup)? Would not like to cut anything.
Some ideas...
Separate the exhaust and intake (so no hot air gets recycled) by blocking the sides and top at the rear of the unit.
Put a small computer fan at the back of the stand to improve airflow?
Put a exhaust hose (a la dryer) on the receiver where the fan is.. maybe put a fan at the end of the hose to pull more air through?
Any tried and true methods that arent too complicated?

Portable DVD player, or video player, or custom-built Frankendevice, with VERY high-quality audio output?? Video quality doesn't matter (could even be b/w), but screen should be 8"+ and unit should be as lightweight as possible. For live concerts where I need to see video, just for my own reference, that's exactly in sync with my pre-recorded audio (so I would make DVDs or video files with my audio + the visuals I need). Laptop = expensive/heavy/overkill.

Can one use RCA cables (red/white/yellow) in component jacks (red/blue/green)? I understand that the jacks carry much different data/signal/whatever, but I was told that there is no need to buy (very) pricey component cables...you can actually just hook up good quality red/white/yellow RCA cables to the component jacks for the same purpose. Has anyone ever produced a movie with wholly Latin language dialogue? Not just snippets (e.g. Passion of the Christ), but a clear better-than-fifty-percent on-going conversation. (Productions of Latin plays definitely acceptable.)
Second best would be extended audio only. (I did a post once with snippets- I'm looking for extended play, something commute worthy, say.)
Finally, repeat above questions for ancient Greek. (There is a video of Medea by the NY Greek drama Company (1986, good luck finding it now). Anything of that sort would be of interest.) Thanks in advance.

Short version: Want to piggy back the audio/video output of my receiver onto my cable TV signal.
Long version: I want to take the output of my receiver which is in RCA plugs (2 audio, 1 video) and somehow put that onto coax that ALSO contains my basic cable channels. I'm sure I stumbled onto something like this while looking at home automation stuff months ago, but I'm not finding it now. Effectively what I want is to be able to put my receiver's output on channel 100 or something on my coax. This would allow me to split that coax and run it to other TV's in my house and have the output from the receiver available on any TV on channel 100, while still having the regular cable channels available as normal. This will allow me to play Xbox on any TV in my house with my wireless controller.
I found this but it only puts the one signal onto coax, it doesn't add it to coax with an existing set of channels. Not what I want, but its the closest thing I've found.
Is this even possible or am I dreaming that I have seen this before?

Ok, my google-fu has failed me. I'm trying to find a simple software program that will allow me to take an AVI file (or multiple AVI files - TV shows, mostly) and burn them to a DVD-R while still having the audio sync up properly. I've tried a couple of programs, and for some reason, the audio ends up being out of sync toward the end, although it's just fine at the beginning.

Over the past several years, I have been burned by poor quality in home electronics from various manufacturers. I have purchased pieces by Sony (home stereo), Panasonic (theatre-in-a-box) and RCA (various pieces of junk), and all have given out in one way or another far too quickly for my liking. In a renewed attempt to build a proper home theatre system (DVD/CD, receiver, speakers, etc), and recognizing that I haven't the money for really high-end stuff but will avoid anything cheap, I seek outside opinions as to which manufacturers are making products that are of reasonable quality, and reasonably priced. Your experiences, please.
