Yiannis Ziros in LA?

Looking for Yiannis Ziros. I have an obsession with super-soft, 100% cotton t-shirts in plain gray and/or white. They are harder to find than you might think. American Apparel makes good ones, as does D&G. I used to buy the D&G ones from a blocchista in Milan, but can't seem to find them here in LA without a ton of writing and logos on them.

So, two part question:

1. When I was in Athens in the summer of 2005, I bought two very soft, very comfortable undershirts under the Yiannis Ziros brand. I have been unsuccessful in finding that brand in the US, and their website appears to not have been updated since 2004. Does anyone know if they are still in business, and if their undershirts are available in the US?

2. Where in LA can I buy plain gray or white D&G t-shirts, or other t-shirts of comparable quality?

Balkanization travel tips!

Travel recommendations please! Tirana - Ohrid - Bitola - Thessaloniki - Athens - Santorini. I've booked places to stay in all of these fabulous-looking towns but would love any personal recommendations for restaurants, tourist sites, travel tips (ferry riding in Greece, for example) or things I shouldn't miss. (Yes, I've read the Greece Askme threads.) Thanks!

Off-season Greece: Crete and Athens?

I'm considering a December trip to Greece: probably Athens and Crete. Any tips on the off-season in particular? How many days to spend in each place? Any other places I should be looking at? Possible plan: Fly to Heraklion in Crete, check out the museums and the Palace of Minos at Knossos. Fly to Athens, look at Parthenon and the museums there.

My location: London. My interests: history, culture, architecture, ruins. Assumptions: Ferry schedules are too erratic to count on, Heraklion is big enough that there will be stuff open.

How can I get From Venice to Dubrovnik to Athens?

How can I get from Venice to Dubrovnik to Athens on a backpacker budget? I'll be in Venice soon and want to go from there to Dubrovnik/Split and thence to Athens (if I can go via Ljubljana I'll be a happy camper too). Staring at budget airline webpages and train timetables is less illuminating than I'd hoped. Any tips?

I'd like to spend about ten days on the way from Venice to Athens.

8 days in Egypt, 3 days in Athens...what to do?

8 days in Egypt, 3 days in Athens...help with itinerary, please! Posting for my non-mefi-account-having friend, who I'm very jealous of right now, lol:

"My wife and I are going to Athens for 3.5 days, 3 nights Dec 27th-Dec 30th, and Egypt for 8.5 days, 8 nights Dec 30th-Jan 7th, starting and ending in Cairo.

For Athens, we're pretty much set for the WHERE (one day trip to Delphi, the rest enjoying Athens, but would like specific, unusual things to check out and visit in those two places.

For Egypt, we're trying to figure it out. We know we'll be in Cairo through New Year's (any cool things to do on New Year's Eve?) and are considering just taking the overnight train and spending the rest of the time in Luxor and then a day trip to Alexandria at the end. Any other thoughts about what to do and/or where to go in this short time?

Probably will be our only time ever to Egypt, so we want to do as much as possible, but Greece we'll go again in the summer to see the islands."

We are on a moderate budget (would like to spend in and around $200-250 day, not including hotel) and are up for long days and odd experiences."

What city should I visit in Europe?

I am going to Europe for about 12 days at the end of August. I am spending a few days in each of Prague and Vienna, and looking for a third city to go to. Which one should I choose? I'm not against Budapest, but people with whom I share travel sensibilities say I should go elsewhere. I need it to be easy to travel between this city and the other ones I am going to, either by bus or by those inexpensive airlines. I'd love it if it used the Euro, but this is not necessary. I'd like to spend about 3 days wherever it is.

People have, with no real level of detail, recommended Athens, Istanbul and Croatia. (Also Poland, but I do not want to go to Poland.) I'm not tied to these options, nor am I against any of them (except Poland).

Things I like: cities, museums, beaches (but not so much lakes).
Things I don't like: clubbing and associated items.
I am not hugely social.

I will be alone, I'm a 30 year old woman, I speak English and French and can get by in Spanish, so mostly I'm going to be working off guidebooks and dictionaries. Hostel or inexpensive hotel recommendations would be lovely. (I know hostels are full of people who will be out all night, but I am a sound sleeper.) I'm happy to hear recommendations for what to do or where to stay in Prague and Vienna as well.

Please do not recommend I spend longer in Prague and/or Vienna. This is not, for various reasons, an option.

How to find a good downtown apartment or loft in Athens, GA?

After a stint in a major city, I've decided that Athens, GA is my home and I will be returning. I'd like to live downtown. Do any Mefites have advice in general for locating not-well-publicized places, or any specific ins for downtown Athens living? I know of Fred's Historic Properties and the Cotton Exchange lofts, both which fit what I'm looking for. But I *know* there are other places downtown that are not these, but I can't figure it out from the internet. I'm scouring Craigslist, local newspapers, and generally Googling, but I know there are lots of places around that I just can't seem to find. I have friends back there on impromptu street teams looking for realty information for different places they see, but I'm stumped without being there myself.

What is this picture?

What's this image? We saw it stenciled onto a wall in Athens. My brother took the picture. He thinks it's cool and wants to make it into a t-shirt, but I figure we should find out what it represents first, just in case it's the symbol for the local skinheads or something. (that would be bad)

Or if anyone knows a good place to go to ID grafitti tags, that'd be a start.

I'd like to know the number of athletes from each country competing at the Olympics -- basically, the size of each country's delegation -- for a little project I'm working on. The Athens 2004 site and the news orgs' sites I've checked do not provide such information, from what I can tell.

Travel to Europe

Traveling to Europe... Prague, Athens, and Crete.. [more inside] This summer I will be going to the island of Crete (Greece) to visit a relative. I will be in Crete for about a month. This will be my first trip to Europe.

En route to Crete I will be going to Prague, Czech Republic and Athens.
I will only be in Prague for about two solid days and about the same for Athens. What are some must-sees in Prague and Athens and some inexpensive places to stay?

Also, has anyone been to Crete and know of any neat places to visit there?
