NOW are there any banks with Deposit@Home check scanning? (That aren't USAA) This has been asked before, but it's 2 years later and one figures that there should be some progress on this front.

For years, USAA has offered (to its military clients only) the ability to scan the front and back of a check, send it to them electronically, and poof, your check is deposited. I'm a private, non-business, non-military USAA customer, and I don't get access to this. It's been 2 years since this was asked on MeFi; any updates?

Googling has so far informed me that some company called Checkfree has made a software package to sell to banks for this purpose in Feb, 2008, but I can't seem to find any banks promoting it. If this is available somewhere, where? If not, why on earth not?

How do you handle sex, in regards to dating a couple of people at once? (I'm a dude, for the record) I was starting to write a ridiculously long version of this question that wasn’t making any sense. So I’ll assume you know where I’m at when I’m asking it. I’m internet dating. I’ve done it quite a bit. In the past, I would sort of go out with anyone that moved. I’ve become much more selective about who I’lll go out with. So lets say for example that everyone I meet likes me and I like them, and we want to go on more dates.

Say also that I’m staggering meeting women based on schedules, so that sometimes, if I’m writing back and forth to 3 women, I might meet woman A on a Monday one week, have a 2nd date the Monday of the following week, have a first date with woman B on the next Tuesday, a first date with woman C on that Friday.

Basically: I’m equally emotionally involved in 3 situations, trying to get to know 3 women, and not be a jerk to any of them, or to myself.

So if I make it to date 3 or so with woman A, and intimacy starts to enter the picture, do I slow things down and explain that I’m also getting to know B and C? Do I say, hey, I’m into this physically and I want to do it, but you need to know there is B and C too? Or do I say, well, time to decide what to do about A, and whether I’d like to go with door B and C instead of A? Or something else.

I'm not on a 3 date=sex schedule. But sometimes it happens. This kind of thing also makes me nervous on dates, and I'd like to find a way to feel relaxed and honorable about the whole thing.

How can I find some great exercise DVDs? I'd like to get some exercise and yoga DVDs for use at home. My weight is fine; I just want to tone up a lot, especially my legs. I'm picky, though. I have a bad back so I can't do crunches or pilates-type moves. As a runner, my knees are too sensitive for a lot of squat moves. I can't be jumping around a lot because the noise will disturb my neighbors. Finally, I want a challenging pace and I want to feel THE BURN the next day.

There are a million DVDs out there, and it's hard to compare one to the next. Sometimes I will read reviews on Amazon, but it is still pretty hard to tell if a particular title will appeal to you. Sometimes the description is misleading, or you buy it and realize that the instructor is annoying or the pace is too slow.

First of all, I'm looking for recommendations for specific DVDs you'd recommend. Also, for tips for HOW to find the best workout DVDs. In other words, web sites that have great summaries of different titles?

If you rear-end someone in Washington State are you automatically "at-fault". My husband was driving in rush hour traffic on the 405 south in the lane next to the HOV lane. He had a safety distance of (a car length and a 1/2) in front of him. Then, the Dodge Caravan (in the HOV lane) decided to cut in front of him, then hit it's brakes. My husband hit his brakes and hydoplaned into the van's rear end at 45 mph. Is my husband automatically at fault???? We are in the state of Washington. No laws were broken, no police were called, no injuries at the time (they even bragged about going to the Sounders (soccer) game) they exchanged information and insurance policy info and everyone was gone within 10 minutes. He informed our insurance company (geico) within 30 minutes of accident. Thank you for your advise in advance.

I dropped my keys down the elevator in my apartment building. Is there any way I can retrieve them? I was carrying an armful of laundry down to the basement, and dropped my keys. They fell down the elevator shaft. I'm on the second floor. They fell down past the first floor, to the basement (laundry level). From the basement, I can see the "bottom" of the elevator shaft - about 4.

Is there any way I can retrieve them with some magnetic pole/magnet on a stick device?

I do have copies, but lost like, my "member pass" keychain things, as well as keys when I visit family (which can be remade). This is more of a convenience factor, than dire necessity.

But seriously... has anyone had any luck with this? What kind of magnetic pole devices can I poke down into the 2.5-3" crevice?

I live on an island and it's hard to date. And I'm queer...and 50...a bad combo. Is all hope lost? My partner of four years decided it was time to move on. I can understand, the age difference was extreme (20 years). I'm 50, and a bit of a 'gay anomaly.' I don't like bars, clubs, drag queens, Pride marches, Barbra Streisand or home decorating. And, like I mentioned, I live on an island in Washington.

Several years ago I tried 'online dating' and it was a horror show. But that was then -- this is, well, something or other -- I dunno -- maybe times have changed.

I'm an artist, successful, smart and comely but philosophical/spiritual minded (not New Age though).

Does anyone have any recommendations for meeting kindred queer souls. I'm totally not about hook-ups and ships passing in the night. I'd like to cultivate something with another man that's, uhm, deep.

Any companies that hire PC technicians as work-at-home phone customer service technicians? Howdy all. I currently run my own small computer repair business, but am looking for extra, steady income. I'm almost positive that there are companies out there that need PC technicians to take phone calls at home to help customers with their technical needs, but have found mostly a big fat zero when looking at online job websites.

Basically, I'm very fluent (over 7 years experience) in spyware/virus removal, networking and general troubleshooting with either Windows or Mac.

Of note, of the websites that I have viewed that are looking for something like this, I meet their following requirements:

-High speed internet
-Dial-up telephone service (to take calls)
-Computer (obviously)
-Ability to work at different times of the day

Let's see what the hive comes up with. :)

Scheduling a 1-time future job in OSX?

Mac OS X (Leopard): at(1) replacement? I need to run a shell script, once, at a specified time in the future (ideally, I'd like to be able to specify "X minutes from now, do this", equivalent to "at now+X minutes").

However, at(1) is broken on OS X (and it's not just because atrun is disabled: at's got some serious time conversion errors) and I can't figure out how to do this via launchd.

Running 10.5.2 if it makes a difference.

Short of using sleep, is there an easy way to queue jobs up for future processing but make it so that the job is only run once, then dequeued/deleted?

love, doubt, & alcohol : is it worth going back anyway ? Some of the things he said could make me think he deeply cared about me, but i could never tell when he was drunk, and not being an alcoholic myself, i do not know to what extent they are sincere /loving everybody / when drunk

i have learned not to trust very easily... so i have no idea if he would say such things to get physical reward or not.

I also know that one of his friends thought i was pretty funny and despised my beliefs.. and i heard of some pretty sad things such as making bets on girls etc.. on my campus.

I truly want to forget about him, because the thought of his existence is unbearable, since he was my first love, and raised issues in a way that i hadnt planned at all. On the other hand, all of my being yearns to just sit down and talk with him. But where to start ? he would probably get that im not over him 2 years later, if i still run after explanations. yet... if he cared about me, he may feel the same way as I do. he also told me (in the tree that night) that he had made it a rule not to run after people, because he doesnt want to cause any damage in people's lives. I simply cant get where his ethics stand.

Any insight ?Alcoholics : do they have feelings (sincere ones, ever ?) ? Most of my friends still are complete christians and advice me to avoid him by all means.

I got scared and decided to go meet him, knowing he is a strange bird.. instead he asks that we meet at a party, where he practically ignores me, then after drinking, comes to me and asks me if my beliefs have changed. I say no, and after clearing his throat, explains me that we cant stay together, so i grab my bag and run out. he runs after me and hold me tight, and since there happens to be a piano in the house, i go and play. he follows me as i play emotional depressing songs. he cries, and tells me he has never told the following stuff to anyone :

"everyone believes im about using people and getting my way, but i spend my life trying to prove myself, and i am so tired of it, i feel like a nobody". I told him some christian cheer up words (the only ones i knew at the time).. and i went back to my place. Was this manipulation ?

Then after a few weeks of silence i call him up to ask him for news, and he simply tells me that he is living town. I didnt have any news from him for the entire summer after this (3 months) so i wrote him a huge letter (10 pages) full of recommendations and "will you please take care of your body and soul and life?", very christian stuff (ugh). Since then, i havent had any news from him.

Advice for a new work at home dad?

I currently am self employed and work at home. We have our first kiddy on the way. What am I going to need to compromise on/totally change? Currently I work relatively long hours running a web hosting company from home but my work allows me to takes lot of little breaks to speak to the wife, get a drink etc. I generally don't have to concentrate hard for anything more than 15-30 minutes at one time but its a long day to cover support for customers.

Now I'm aware there are going to be major changes but are there any work at home dads (or mums) who can tell me what to expect. Obvious would be to hire someone to cover me but that isn't doable currently. Any hints / tips would help

How can I send SMSes from Address Book (OS X) using my Nokia N73? / Where can I find an AT command set for the N73? It seems that Address Book refuses to work with my N73 in regards to sending SMSes. iSync works flawlessly and transfers all my contacts and calendar entries with ease. Are there any fixes for this?

If not; as I'm led to believe that the AT commands for my phone in the Address Book application are incorrect / outdated, where can I find a complete listing of AT commands so I can try my own hand at a solution?

How can I use my precious AT keyboard on a laptop with only a USB connector? I love my circa 1985 PC's Limited keyboard. I've had no problem plugging it in to a desktop's PS/2 connector with the proper adaptor in between, but my laptop has only a USB port. I bought a PS/2-to-USB keyboard adaptor and chained them together, but it doesn't work. The keyboard freaks out a bit and blink its LEDs a lot.

Does anyone know how to make this work, or know anyone who knows anyone who has made this work? I've googled pretty hard but I'll be glad to find out that I missed something obvious.

How can I stop an automatic adobe download? Every time I boot up my computer I get a prompt to download Adobe version 7.0. I already have it on my machine and I use windows XP. I’ve tried to initiate the download, to get rid of the prompt, and I get a message that you already have this version on your machine and the download stops. I’ve tried to uninstall version 7.0 and reinstall it and that doesn’t work either. Does anyone have a suggestion? Thanks in advance for your help.

Novice Backpacking in Maine in September

Backpacking in Maine In September: What do I absolutely have to bring? And what should I expect? With any luck I will be hiking a portion of the Appalachian Trail for 4 days in September. I've done some day hiking but never any backpacking. I will be going with someone who has some experience backpacking, but never in Maine on the AT. What can I expect and what should I bring (or leave behind), particularly things that might not be obvious to a novice?

Also, as an aside, I probably have most of the gear I need except a pack -- any pack recommendations from women would be appreciated.

Attempting to plug my old hard drive into an enclosure, but I don't know what this port is or how it connects. Pictures inside. I'm pretty hardware-useless, so hopefully someone can send me in the right direction. I bought this enclosure. My hard drive is a Seagate ST94Q11A that came with an HP 2100 series notebook.

[4] - The two ports are the same size, so one cannot plug into the other.

I'm really sorry for the webcam pictures! I thought they would do; my camera is loaned out until next week.

Is there an adapter that I need? How do I get this darn thing connected? From the reviews on Newegg, it looks like it should just plug in easily, but the port on the hard drive is goofy and my geeky pals could not identify it, either.

Appalachain Trail (Nantahala) guidance?

A group of my friends and I are looking to hike the first leg of the Nantahala area AT this weekend, and can't figure out where to park and enter. We would like to use the Cold Spring Shelter. I've read over this information, but can't understand what specific location on the river it is using for "miles from the Nantahala River", so as to determine where the shelter is located and where to enter. Does anyone have any idea? Any help is welcome.

If not, I'm absolutely open to other hiking and camping recommendations in the Jackson/Macon/Swain county area. We're going from Sunday to Tuesday morning, and a shelter is not necessarily required -- we have tents.

AT thru-hike on $5 a day. Possible? I'm beyond broke. I want to do the AT before the Robert Redford movie is released and traffic picks up. I'll have about $5 a day for food and whatever else comes up. I'm resigned to the fact that ramen, peanut butter and bagels will be my best friends. Is it worth the attempt or am I just plain nuts?
