They don't seem too dependable but I need a project done with a couple of them.
computer/video games incorporating astrology?

Video/computer games that incorporate astrology? I'm just looking for some titles of video or computer games that use elements from astrology, or even games that make use of their own fictional astrological system. (I'm expecting that there are a bunch of jrpgs that do this, but I couldn't actually think of any instances of it!)

Oriental artefact filter

Asking for a friend who bought this (two pix here) at a yard sale for 50 cents.
What is it? It is approx 7 3/4" square and 1/2" deep, has a magnetic compass in the center and two spirit levels at right angles to each other in one corner.
Comes in a bright red plastic case with flaps and cover. Appears to be made of lacquered wood (red on the front and and black on the back). Red monofilament line crosses and appears to hold the disk.

Buddha Pest

As a general skeptic, how do you come to terms with a partner who believes in metaphysics? I'm a firm agnostic, staunch proponent of the scientific method, and subscriber to the notion of variability and probability. Just about every partner I've had holds beliefs in such things as predestiny, past lives, and astrology.

I try to keep an open mind, but when a recent girl took me back to her place, gave me a tarot card reading, showed off her crystals, and went on about Wiccan practices, my eyes rolled so far to the back of my head I nearly gave myself an aneurysm. Everything else about her is awesome, but I cannot come to terms with putting effort into someone who doesn't give critical analysis to her surroundings. (As an aside, I'm a very intuitive person, and after her tarot reading, I tore it to bits then turned the tables, providing an amazingly accurate cold reading about her on my own, breaking down my methodology to detailed analysis, body language, and pattern recognition, to which she simply smiled and mused that I'm a clairvoyant with untapped potential.)

The obvious answer is to move on to someone else who shares the same values [is it a value?], but maybe someone can provide me with ideas on how to better temper my tolerance for faith, even insofar as family or friends.

So for the other staunch skeptics out there, how do you deal with partners with a different take on the possible? And is it an issue of potential long-term consequence, such as when marriage or kids come into play?

Astrology introductions?

Complete beginner here, not overly skeptical, but so far also not particularly convinced. I'm reading the wonderful Letters of Ted Hughes and finding myself very interested in what he says there about astrology. So, could anybody direct me to a good, credible introduction to the subject?

Astrological suggestions

Complete neophyte looking for an astrology-related birthday present. My SO's birthday is coming up next month, and she's a fairly serious astrology student. I don't hold any credence in it myself, but I'd like to get her some fairly interesting and useful (non-beginner level) materials or books. Anyone have any suggestions? I have quite literally no idea what sort of things would be useful. There's tons of books about putting together charts - is there anything more in-depth than that, like an 'Astrologist's Encyclopedia' or something? Diving charts? I've seen computer progs that do similar things, but she's not much of a computer person. Any and all suggestions welcome!

Mercury Repellent?

If you were making mercury repellent to ward off the unsettling and snarling effects of mercury retrograde, what would you put in it? During the multiple periods of mercury retrograde this year, my friends, family, and my friends' families have all seen lots of strife, negative events, and overall chaos. So my friend and I would like to make a little gift of "mercury repellent" to give out. We'd like this to be semi serious at least, and I don't know what type of energetic items, herbs, crystals, oils, or other substances should go into this type of potion or talisman. Any suggestions would be lovely. Thanks in advance.

astrological transit websites?

I'm looking for the best website about current astrological transits -- what is happening this month, this year, or this day astrologically, and - suspending disbelief in astrology - how will this effect us? I've found some sites similar to what I want on Google, but they are either terribly unorganized and hard to navigate, don't update regularly, or have incomplete information. Any nod in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!

What are some alternatives to Rob Brezsny's Free Will Astrology column?
I'm the editor of a free alternative paper on the East Coast of Canada. We're expanding, and we want an astrology section. We love the literate, funny style of Free Will Astrology, but it's already being published by one of our competitors. What can we do?

Your lucky numbers are 1, 7, 8, 27, and 4 billion.

Is there any basis to astrology? I know I've seen some brief explanations for the art of astrology, such as the developmental period of a baby/child being affected by the season they were born in contributing to their nature.

I also know that most horoscopes and such are both general enough to apply to anyone as well as being positive enough to make most folks *want* to believe them (see: fortune cookies).

However, I feel that the profiles of each sign have more often than not been fairly accurate in my past relationships, and that things such as sign compatability "reports" could ergo hold a grain of truth.

Does anyone have either "scientific" backing for these issues or personal experiences that would be interesting to tell more about? I realize the latter will probably devolve into a raft of "I agree" vs. "I don't agree" antecdotes.

Yes, I did search for previous questions on this, no dice.
