I'm heading for a career change, and want to get better at my two passions: creative writing (creative non-fiction) and photography. I'm looking for a grad program that helps me integrate both so I can tell both my own stories and other people's (NGOs, Foundations, etc) more persuasively.

Where can I find paints for kids that are "professional" quality yet not "professionally" expensive? I bought Crayola paints and they are
terrible. I am looking for something (a) reasonably priced but pigmented enough get my toddler excited about colors, (b) doesn't require swirling a brush for a good long minute to get the color going, (c) available on the internet. I don't mind if they are messy/unwashable.
I don't know anything about colors so please specify both the brand and the type of paint in your recommendation. If the paper makes a real difference, please recommend that too!

I'm at home ill at the moment, watching lots of films and reading a lot (this week I've watched 14 films and read 2 books). I'd like to find sites (or podcasts/lectures/etc) that intelligently examine media and/or popular culture. I regularly read articles on
Popmatters and sometimes the
A.V. Club (but not so much). What are your favourite film/media crit resources? Podcasts? Lectures? Thank you in advance for any help!

Looking for good, critical books and resources on martial arts and fighting. I prefer them to be academic enough to have survived peer review, but will take what I can get. Anything martial arts related would do, I'm interested in understanding martial arts and fighting in a more general sense.

I'm on the board of an arts organization that is in a funding emergency. I'm looking for suggestions of ways to raise money for our organization in a hurry - we've lost funding we were counting on and will lose our paid staff if we can't come up with some answers in a hurry. Why anon? Going public with the degree we're in trouble may make things worse. Details: we're a convening/connecting organization that facilitates other arts organizations and individual artists/musicians/creatives activities. We do some programming and help other organizations and individuals develop their programming and artistic careers. Most organizations like us are funded by supporting organizations and or a small percentage tax but we weren't set up that way and all arts organizations in our region - shoot the whole country - are struggling. Throwaway email: arts.org61@ymail.com

GroupCommitmentFilter: I've been trying to put together a large group of people to participate in an artistic performance-based hobby that they all claim to enjoy. I'm the group leader, and it feels like I'm herding cats when it comes to getting people to commit to attending training sessions so that our shows will be of a high quality. I'm constantly altering my plans so that the least experienced people aren't left behind.
How can I get people to step up their game and commit to the group without alienating them?

I recently chose to change directions in my career, so I’m back in school to receive the proper/required training. I did this in response to dislike of my former job and the realization that my artistic needs likely can’t be met through a full-time job. So I’ve chosen a career path that is very technical and science-based, opposite of anything artistic, but a good balance I think (I still plan on working on my art outside of job setting). I feel like it might be the wrong choice though since it's so different and that it might take over any artistic pursuits. Has anyone been in a similar situation?

What's the name of the website where artists can have an idea that they don't have time to do themselves? I forgot to bookmark it. Ie. I have a really good band name idea, but don't have time to do the work so I donate the right for someone to use the idea for a year.

How can I solicit electronic equipment for short term loan for an NYC art exhibition? It is affiliated with a non-profit and reasonably high profile, I have a PR kit ready but am having trouble finding the right contacts (at Samsung, Sony, or Panasonic for example). I need a monthlong loan of a flatscreen LED display and in exchange can offer PR opportunities, exposure to a sophisticated arts audience, and VIP performance tickets - a lot to offer!

In five years I'm planning to pursue an MA in an artistic field. I live near an Ivy League university; my current teacher has a degree from that university and is encouraging me to apply. I had ruled it out because I had never considered myself anything near "Ivy League" before (the closest I've come is blowing an undergrad interview for a different school). What can I do between now and then (five years) to make myself an attractive, creative Ivy League arts grad school candidate?
