Antique Print Restoration: I have 6 or 7 original c. 1860 Gould humming bird prints. These are large (14" x x21" +/-) hand-colored lithographs. In wonderful condition EXCEPT there is slight black "text transfer" visible on the print. This sometimes happens to antique prints when there was no tissue-guard to separate the print from the text on the opposite facing page. [more inside]
DissectingArtFilter: I'd like to start to understand how certain (in my eyes, fantastic) lyrics are devised. Specifically, Stephen Malkmus's lyrics, as a part of Pavement. For instance, Gold Soundz. I can pick out some slant rhymes, and certain other techniques but can't figure out how they work in the context of the entire piece. I know that melody plays a huge role in making the song what it is, but sort of focusing on the lyrics part - any words of wisdom. (and yes, I'm possibly writing lyrics for my band at some point)
I'm looking into doing a sidewalk chalk festival as on of dozens of artists but I've never worked in the medium. Any ideas on materials and methods? [more inside]

Can your artistic pursuits survive the realization that you have modest talents and limited prospects?
You set out to be a writer, a musician, a painter, a filmmaker, an actor, something creative. Somehow you didn't become the success you once envisioned. Have you been able to maintain an interest and participation in artistic pursuits as a hobby or small sideline, or have you needed to let the spark fade away completely? [more inside]

An artist friend of mine was surprised to see his artwork used without permission on a flier for a band. He had posted the artwork on his website. What can/should he do to stop the misuse? I know that he automatically holds a copyright on the work as its creator. (I have advised him to post watermarked versions of his work in the future to prevent future misuse.)
At some point in my life I would like to graduate from displaying posters on my wall to having fine art prints from the photographers themselves. I am thinking I would like a candid photograph of Johnny Cash and Joe Strummer (not in the same picture!). I assume there is a gallery to represent these photographers, but how do I start the process of finding them?
Can someone please identify this painting? It's bugging me. Thanks.
I have a pencil (maybe charcoal?) sketch of Pompeii my mom drew, about 50 years ago. It's gorgeous. It's been tucked away because I'm afraid of light damaging the picture. Are there any specialty picture frames/glass coverings I can use to display her artwork, while minimizing fading or light damage?

Optics n00b question: I'm working on an art project wherein I etch drawings onto glass and then project shadows of said srawings onto a wall. What is the best way to startup a small scale art gallery? I'm moving to a new apartment next week. The front room is an old store front. The previous tenant used it as a small art gallery. I'd like to continue this every so often. Not every month but when I get a really good show organized. I'm not concerned about making any money just mostly about showing off work I like. Do I have to register it as a business or non profit organization? Although, it's going to be small scale I would like to do some advertising as well. Not a whole lot but enough to get peoples attention. I'm really new to all this so I don't know very much about it. I've been thinking of some solutions like calling it an exhibition space and if someone wants to purchase something I'll just refer them to the artist and let them handle it themselves. Will that make things more complicated than necessary? Any advice would be very much appreciated.
How should one market and price art as a young artist? My sister-in-law is a very talented young (20 y.o.) artist. She is just finishing an undergraduate program in fine arts (where she excelled, particularly in the applied courses), and is actively attempting to make a business out of selling and marketing her art. In June, I am moving into a 1000sf open space place with 14ft high ceilings. I have many large abstract paintings (5 and 6 feet high)... but what about the space above? Anything I can do with it that would maximize my space--for example shelves around the perimeter or...? Any suggestions for things that can go up high and look good and don't require constant access? Links to pix of what other people have done with such high ceilings appreciated.

I saw this link from some blog. It's some baroque skeletal sculpture and it's amazing. The page's author doesn't seem to know much about it, but damn I would love to have a piece like this. I am trying to find a copy of a drawing/picture I saw awhile ago. It is related the the idea of "the city as an organism". I remember it as a city drawn as a kind of machine on robot legs. It is in kind of Monty Python style if that makes sense... Does anyone know who the artist is? Or if this even exists?

Movie posters normally carry images that look hand-drawn. Even 'real' landscapes, or people, are frequently represented in this style. Why do studios do this? And are these images really drawn by hand, or are they just photoshopped photos? [more inside]
I have a couple of intricately beaded African ceremonial sashes, ca. 1960, that need cleaning (desperately! profoundly!), but I can't afford professional art restoration at this time, and don't trust non-specialists to clean them. Imagine a cube-shaped building, with ten cube-shaped rooms along each side (10 rooms long, 10 high & 10 deep). Each cubular room has 4 walls, 1 ceiling and 1 floor. Each of the 6 interior surfaces in all 1000 cubular rooms is decorated with a different piece of art. The rooms can be moved around the building, as if it were an enormous Rubik's cube, but they can also be spun on their axes, so all 6 walls of all 1000 cubes is capable of touching all the others (if the cube is so arranged). How many combinations of art within the 'Cube Gallery' are possible? If you can run me through the workings of the maths I would be extra grateful. Also, what technical words/phrases/language are useful/interesting in expressing this concept? [more inside]
