Can someone please identify this painting? It's bugging me. Thanks.
I have a pencil (maybe charcoal?) sketch of Pompeii my mom drew, about 50 years ago. It's gorgeous. It's been tucked away because I'm afraid of light damaging the picture. Are there any specialty picture frames/glass coverings I can use to display her artwork, while minimizing fading or light damage?

Optics n00b question: I'm working on an art project wherein I etch drawings onto glass and then project shadows of said srawings onto a wall. I've done this before using an overhead projector as a light source and it worked great. This time around I bought some lights that don't work quite as well... [more inside]

What is the best way to startup a small scale art gallery? I'm moving to a new apartment next week. The front room is an old store front. The previous tenant used it as a small art gallery. I'd like to continue this every so often. Not every month but when I get a really good show organized. I'm not concerned about making any money just mostly about showing off work I like. Do I have to register it as a business or non profit organization? Although, it's going to be small scale I would like to do some advertising as well. Not a whole lot but enough to get peoples attention. I'm really new to all this so I don't know very much about it. I've been thinking of some solutions like calling it an exhibition space and if someone wants to purchase something I'll just refer them to the artist and let them handle it themselves. Will that make things more complicated than necessary? Any advice would be very much appreciated.
How should one market and price art as a young artist? My sister-in-law is a very talented young (20 y.o.) artist. She is just finishing an undergraduate program in fine arts (where she excelled, particularly in the applied courses), and is actively attempting to make a business out of selling and marketing her art. I have a vision for decorating my bathroom. It sort of involves an amateurish take on trompe-l'oeil -- I know I've seen it before, but I can't think of where. I'm hoping the Hive can put me on the right path to creativity. [more inside]
I'd like suggestions for a seascape/dreamscape in pastel/seashell colours that may or may not include shells, but hopefully includes water that I can paint on the wall of the pool shed/poolside shaded sitting area. [more inside]

In June, I am moving into a 1000sf open space place with 14ft high ceilings. I have many large abstract paintings (5 and 6 feet high)... but what about the space above? Anything I can do with it that would maximize my space--for example shelves around the perimeter or...? Any suggestions for things that can go up high and look good and don't require constant access? Links to pix of what other people have done with such high ceilings appreciated.

I saw this link from some blog. It's some baroque skeletal sculpture and it's amazing. The page's author doesn't seem to know much about it, but damn I would love to have a piece like this. Does anybody here know anything about this or this style? http://self-improvement.readigg.com/description/16213.html [more inside]
I am trying to find a copy of a drawing/picture I saw awhile ago. It is related the the idea of "the city as an organism". I remember it as a city drawn as a kind of machine on robot legs. It is in kind of Monty Python style if that makes sense... Does anyone know who the artist is? Or if this even exists?

Movie posters normally carry images that look hand-drawn. Even 'real' landscapes, or people, are frequently represented in this style. Why do studios do this? And are these images really drawn by hand, or are they just photoshopped photos? [more inside]
I have a couple of intricately beaded African ceremonial sashes, ca. 1960, that need cleaning (desperately! profoundly!), but I can't afford professional art restoration at this time, and don't trust non-specialists to clean them. Can I (should I?) try to do something (anything?) on my own? [more inside]

Imagine a cube-shaped building, with ten cube-shaped rooms along each side (10 rooms long, 10 high & 10 deep). Each cubular room has 4 walls, 1 ceiling and 1 floor. Each of the 6 interior surfaces in all 1000 cubular rooms is decorated with a different piece of art. The rooms can be moved around the building, as if it were an enormous Rubik's cube, but they can also be spun on their axes, so all 6 walls of all 1000 cubes is capable of touching all the others (if the cube is so arranged). How many combinations of art within the 'Cube Gallery' are possible? If you can run me through the workings of the maths I would be extra grateful. Also, what technical words/phrases/language are useful/interesting in expressing this concept? [more inside]

I'm doing some volunteer web work for a small nonprofit. They want to auction artwork online in advance of a benefit event. They need an auction service to handle the bidding. Bidders would be local residents, items would be priced in the low hundreds of dollars, and the nonprofit would handle delivery of the art. Any easy to set up, easy for users to register and use, inexpensive providers out there?
ArtFilter: For several generations, my family has had a large painting that's a reproduction of Guido Reni's Aurora. At some point it was water damaged, and my father just had it restored. The woman who restored it fond an artist's name on the back, "R. Menchetti - Roma." Aside from the artnet link, we haven't been able to find anything else out about him. I'm not an art or art history expert. Where can I look to find more information, online or off?
Where can I find information and images on the Web of work by American artist Mario Rivoli (b. 1943 in NYC - now based in Denver CO)? Haven't been able to find much - there's this article but little more. Done all the usual Googling and gotten nowhere. Any help or leads would be greatly appreciated.
Suggestions for portrait painters in Vancouver or San Francisco? We're trying to find a painter to commission two portraits for an anniversary present. The painter should be within striking distance to either city and have portraits in their portfolio. And yes, we are generally thinking of paintings, but should you know of a fantastic photographer in the same vein, post it here too. [more inside]

My boyfriend's mother died recently, and he and his father are starting to "take stock" of the household. They spent a lifetime traveling and collecting so there are lots of items that we believe are worth something, but we really need to get them appraised. We aren't sure how to do this given the wide range of stuff including art, pottery, furniture, antique costuming, and ephemera. [more inside]

I'm the co-producer of over 30 short films that are intended for cell phone and internet distribution.
