What is this kind of art called, and where can I find it when I actually want to find it? [more inside]
Where can I find high-quality desktop wallpaper-suitable images of modern art? I'm mostly thinking of work from the last decade, but even the last 50 years would be good. Also: free would be nice.
Closed landscape? What the heck is my art instructor talking about? It doesn't help that, yes, I've got to pull one off by next week. [more inside]
I'm doing some volunteer web work for a small nonprofit. They want to auction artwork online in advance of a benefit event. They need an auction service to handle the bidding. Bidders would be local residents, items would be priced in the low hundreds of dollars, and the nonprofit would handle delivery of the art. Any easy to set up, easy for users to register and use, inexpensive providers out there?
ArtFilter: For several generations, my family has had a large painting that's a reproduction of Guido Reni's Aurora. At some point it was water damaged, and my father just had it restored. The woman who restored it fond an artist's name on the back, "R. Menchetti - Roma." Aside from the artnet link, we haven't been able to find anything else out about him. I'm not an art or art history expert. Where can I look to find more information, online or off?
Where can I find information and images on the Web of work by American artist Mario Rivoli (b. 1943 in NYC - now based in Denver CO)? Haven't been able to find much - there's this article but little more. Done all the usual Googling and gotten nowhere. Any help or leads would be greatly appreciated.
Suggestions for portrait painters in Vancouver or San Francisco? We're trying to find a painter to commission two portraits for an anniversary present. The painter should be within striking distance to either city and have portraits in their portfolio. And yes, we are generally thinking of paintings, but should you know of a fantastic photographer in the same vein, post it here too. [more inside]
Korean Artwork - are there any good online or print repositories of animal artwork from Korea? [more inside]
My boyfriend's mother died recently, and he and his father are starting to "take stock" of the household. They spent a lifetime traveling and collecting so there are lots of items that we believe are worth something, but we really need to get them appraised. We aren't sure how to do this given the wide range of stuff including art, pottery, furniture, antique costuming, and ephemera. [more inside]

I'm the co-producer of over 30 short films that are intended for cell phone and internet distribution. Rather than rent a theater for the premiere, I'd like to have a space, such as an art gallery, that will house five to seven video stations where guests can sample these short videos at their leisure. I'm looking to do an art project that involves photographing a bunch of lights, 25-50 lights, spread throughout a small area of a pine forest. What would be the best, really cheap, way to make these "independent lights". [more inside]

Video camera rental advice: I'm looking to make an exceedingly simple, short video (an art project, if you will) and I'm looking to rent a fairly high quality camera to do it with. The condition is that I need a camera that can function reasonably (I'm not expecting miracles, here, but I don't want horribly washed-out, grainy business) in a very low-light situation. I'm applying for a small grant to do this, and I can't afford more than maybe $200 for a day's rental, $250 tops. [more inside]
To keep my skills sharp I draw from models I find online. I do 3 or 4 pencil drawings daily, usually head shots or 3/4 length portraits, quickly, in front of my laptop. I'm looking for more of this type of photograph, in bulk. [more inside]

While watching a Japanese documentary about some kid in America (not famous, so nothing y'all would likely have seen), in the background there was a poster of the head of the Statue of Liberty stylized to look like the Transformers Autobot symbol. Googling has been surprisingly unsuccessful; does anyone know who the artist might be, whether that poster can be purchased or image found online, etc?

I have a self-publishing conundrum: I really like the size of Moleskine notebooks (3.5 x 5.5). I want to put out a book in these dimensions. Lulu and other POD publishers that I've found won't go that small (especially in hardcover). So, my question's a two parter: a. Do you know any way I can get this done (ie, alternatives to Lulu who will do that size)? b. If I can't find such a company, I'm interested in hand-writing some Moleskines and customizing the covers to make them look more "commercial"--ie, create a dust jacket or sticker or some other alternative. Solutions/suggestions for something that'll look unique and kickass?
What's this public art/sculpture in NYC? It is plastic and shiny and is located just outside Central Park, across the street from the Apple store on 5th (or it least it was on Dec 31st when I took the picture).
