What building or work of art is this?

Can anyone tell me anything about this striking building or work of art? Who, where, etc.? Thanks. Have a look, I think you'll like it.

I need to be a better illustrator!

Help me become a better (comic book style) artist so I can illustrate my own scripts. I need to become better at sketching, primarily. The human figure mainly, but also backgrounds and layouts. I don't have $$ for an extensive course, so I'm looking primarily for books and online tutorials. (I also need to find artists to illustrate scripts I don't have time to do myself, if anyone's interested.) Thanks.

Color Theory and Beyond

Color Theory and Beyond: Recommend me a good book or references on color theory, including optical effects and concerns beyond just basics like complimentary, analagous, etc? (Expanding on this thread.) [more inside]

Artists' Pose Books?

Artists: Do you use pose books (or CDs) for reference or practice? Until recently I never knew there were so many. Which are best? Is one the be-all/end-all? Do you find "pose-dolls" helpful, and if so, are there better ones than the stiff wooden mannequins at the local crafts store? [more inside]

Name That Artist

Name that artist: He's Japanese or Japanese-American, judging from his name. He paints (or painted?) busy 1920s-ish city street scenes, full of old cars and people in the dress of the day, generally very small and dwarfed by the (New York?) buildings around them ... Perspective was usually from far away, perhaps in the sky. Charming paintings, very detailed, with humor and often an almost cartoon sensibility. I seem to remember sometimes many umbrellas ... Can you excuse an artist "selling out"?

Inspired by this Ask(ed)Me further down the page: If an artist "sells out" a song to advertise a product, but uses the profits for charity or good works, is it excusable? Does it depend on the product? Do we all just ignore commercials anyway (since we're such enlightened, non-materialistic intellectual MeFites)? Let's say you're a financially and artistically successful artist: What's your price, if you have one?

How do you do pen and ink illustrations?

Pen-n-ink illustration filter:
I've recently taken a renewed interest in "embellishing" or "rendering" in pen and ink. This has led me to this picture of a fiddling cat, which is naggingly familiar to myself and also to my Mom, although neither of us can remember the artist or source. Also, I came across this illustration from an Aesop's Fable, but I do not know the artist either (evidently, though, Aesop has a long and old tradition of finely illustrated editions.) Can anyone help me out?

And while we're at it, do we have any pen-n-ink or comics style artists out there? What good books or practice-methods have helped you? (I've had this great book since I was a child but am only now making good use of it.) Do you use traditional quills, or have you transitioned to modern markers and such? Or a Wacom tablet?
Really, I'd love any info from anyone who creates art or plays with the techniques.

Help me find Mike Ploog's comic art.

Severely comicbook-geekish question: Storyboard and film-design artist Mike Ploog used to do comics. He did some breathtaking b&w art on the 1970s Marvel Planet of the Apes Magazine. Does anyone have a Ploog checklist, or know which POTA issues between 16 and 29 Ploog did art for? [more inside]
