I've long admired the works of Andreas Gursky but only ever have seen one of his works in person. I'd love to see a collection of his work but have no clue where to look for museums or whatnot that are showing him in the months to come. Any advice?

I'm looking to find / make / adapt a costume for a fine art photoshoot that I'm currently planning. The character in the picture is one from myth, who is said to have a skirt made from flayed human skin. Short of sending Ramsay Snow's a raven or becoming Buffalo Bill, how can I put together a costume that will look as creepy-beautiful as I need? [more inside]

I would like to start learning how to draw, after 16 years of stick figures. I am keeping a sketchbook to practice in frequently, but I was wondering if anyone had some good resources for jump-starting my artistic development (there are overwhelmingly many such resources on the Internet). I am also interested in general modern art, metal art, sculpting, lithography, and photography. Thanks in advance! ^_^

I am decorating a new apartment and would like to put some nice pieces of art on the walls. I love some of the photographs in the Library of Congress collection and have thought about having them blown up and printed high-res. Which brings me to my question: What are the best high-res images (in the public domain) floating around the Internet? Or collections of public domain high-res images that I can turn into posters?

I'm searching for art galleries in major cities (such as London, New York, Seattle, Dubai, etc) that are friendly to emerging artists, and are likely to take take 1 - 2 pieces in a group show. My goal here (similar to my last ask mefi question) is to get some exhibition credits in major cities, as crass as that sounds.
Are there any suggestions you have, or specific search keywords I should be looking for?

So basically I need to swap out all the art on several websites with photos of California that we have the rights to use in perpetuity (as well as for print). I realize there's the "buy one at a time from Getty" avenue but I have neither the time or resources for that. What I need is a boatload of pics that I can use for commercial use that are all OF California (as well as some general use pics, graphics and art). A very big collection that I can hand to an intern so they can get swapping.
I think in the old days you used to just be able to buy a CD-rom of images. Can you still do that? Are there full collections with hundreds of pics? Or are there any free collections that anyone knows about that are just public use for this purpose? My budget for this is not high (no more than a couple hundred bucks) so I'm open to any options possible.

I agreed a long time ago to do pose for a Centerfold with two of my best girlfriends in the school's 'alternative newspaper'. It's done as a foldout section in the middle pages of the paper, and we pretty much have full artistic control over it. I wanted to do something dynamic and avant garde because in the past, nobody has really taken advantage of the opportunity, and it's just been a lot of posing with dumb inanimate objects held over the crotch, or in the library, or standing around outside. I want to revitalize the genre. And I need your help! [more inside]

I have this Phaidon Nan Goldin monograph written by Guido Costsa, and there isn't any info or even title/date of the (NSFW) cover photo. It is the same photo as you see here: link
I would like any info available about this photo. Does anybody know who the model is, what her relationship was to Nan, when the picture was taken? Any other interesting info?

For my job, I'm looking for some material to create an audio soundscape for this photo.
I don't know much about hip hop or what might have been associated with hip hop culture in 1993 coastal Texas. What songs, ambient sounds, interview snippets, or other (very short) sound experiences would enhance your viewing of this photo?

SFFilter! I have a friend who has a photography assignment due on Monday -- six photos, with the theme of portals/entrances. They need to take photos of six distinctive entranceways/ doorways/ portals/ passages in San Francisco. Places that open up to amazing, distinctive sights and vistas... possibly even some outdoor locations, garden gates, etc. that are semi-enclosed, and have interesting subjects behind them. They'd especially appreciate Art Deco subjects and locations within walking distance of the downtown.
Can the MeFi hivemind recommend some great portals to shoot, with a sense of mystery, wonder, and excitement on what lies beyond?

Who is the artist/photographer whose work deals with issues of resources, population, human consumption, etc.? For example
, I remember a giant photo/collage that looks like lots of colored boxes from far off, and then up close it is revealed to be made up of freight containers that represent the amount of some type of goods used by the US in a certain period of time, or something like that.

I'd like to know if they're worth anything and where I can look to find how much they're going for and where I might advertise them. Specifics and photos inside... [more inside]
