What are the most important/relevant research studies and academic journal articles on the topic of art education advocacy? Now that this semester is coming to a close, I'm interested in doing some reading while I still have access to a university library.

I've always admired great technical illustration, such as in a good Physics or Mathematics textbook. I'm jealous of illustrators that can also do animation, such as in
this Google Docs promo video (just a recent example, not necessarily a pinnacle). But I have next to no illustration experience myself, and have always been intimidated by programs like Adobe Illustrator. Is technical illustration and animation accessible to the new adult hobbyist, and is it feasible to cultivate visual artistic ability in adulthood given a lack of previous experience? Are classes useful for this, or a waste of time?

I've come to consult the hive for advice on undergraduate majors in the arts. As of yet I'm simply a B.A. Studio Art major, but if I rearrange my schedule I could take on another major. Anyone know the merits?

Help me learn as much as I can about the history and theory of contemporary art. I would at this point, love to take up a full time course for two years on the above, but for several reasons I cannot do so. I can however, spend 3-4 hours daily to read and study. I also spend almost three months of the year travelling to various biennales, museums and collections around the world to up my knowledge. But while I am fairly up to date with what is going on today, I need to get myself a proper history so i know the context of what I am seeing.
So if someone could provide me with a systematic syllabus of what I need to read, it would be appreciated. An actual syllabus from a top notch program would be the best.
A great book I read on the subject was "Shock of the New" by Robert Hughes.

My son (13 y.o., 8th grade) is exhibiting innate talent in the visual arts. Last night, he bemoaned to me that he wished his school curriculum was weighted more heavily on the art side. This got me thinking about looking into magnet-type high-schools and other schools that feature strong arts education. Any suggestions on where I should start looking and issues to consider? Any thoughts about the necessity of a "portfolio" and what that entails? Did you or someone close to you attend a school like this; if so, what were your experiences? (I am art-clueless, so the more detail, the better. We live in the Boston/Cambridge MA area.)

I will shortly be introducing a friend of mine to Second Life. She's an academic, and will be most interested in locations in SL that are related to the teaching of art (especially drawing and cartooning) and the teaching of writing. I would be most grateful for any suggestions anyone might have of locations we could visit.

Next year I will graduate from college with a double concentration in English and French. As much as I love literature and reading, graduate school in those fields doesn't seem like the right thing for me. However, my love of photography has blown up in the past few years and I'm pretty serious about making a career of it.
Where are the good photography schools? Is there any way to get an MFA with my experience? Otherwise, is a second BA worth the money and hassle?
