My brother has been looking for this short story for a while -- help me to make his Christmas! Details: A bully is tormenting everyone in school. The main character is a one-armed girl, who is generally disliked. A boy that she likes decides to stand up for everyone one day, and fights the bully. The bully beats him up, but the boy keeps getting up no matter how many times he gets hit. The crowd starts to root for the boy, and the bully starts to feel shaken. The girl, worried about the boy, goes to tell the teacher what's happening, and the teacher breaks it up. The bully is restored to power and the boy calls the girl a mean name. [more inside]
While working out tonight, I walked/ran for 15 minutes on the treadmill and started to warm up with light weights (one set of overhead barbell press). I then noticed that my left arm was engorged with blood - like a “pump” as if I had been working out intensely for a while, but my right was not. The medical advice line thought it wasn't cardiac, but I'd like to figure out what the cause might be. [more inside]
I really hurt my arm. I am going to the doctor, but I'm curious about people's general experiences with this type of injury, treatments, length of recovery, and general speculation about just what I did to myself, since it seems like I did several different things at once. [more inside]

Are there mythological figures with three, four, five, six, seven or eight arms? If so, what are their names? Note, I'm specifically looking for humanoid type figures with more than two arms, not beasts such as Cerberus, the three headed dog or Hekatonkheires, the hundred eyed or headed giants. We're just talking arms here. I need to name a few things.

I have a mess of ad-hoc backup systems, none of which “just work”. I would like to have a NAS that quietly backs up the cross-platform content I have, and also mirrors it online securely. I should probably budget for about 1-2 TB. I have no problem doing geeky setup stuff, but the less routine stuff I have to remember, the better. System details follow. [more inside]
60-year-old house, trap arm and drain/vent are galvanized, trap arm is rusty and I want to remove it. Or should I cut it, or hire someone to do it for me? [more inside]
I work with a person that routinely has bubble shaped rounded bumps on the underside of their fore arms. The bumps are approximately 1 1/2 inches in diameter and ~ 1/2 inch high. The person generally has two bumps on each fore arm. Some days, there are no bumps. They don't seem to bother this person in any way. I have not asked them about this condition. The person has not mentioned anything about it and I don't want to embarrass the person by inquiring. I do know that this person has a child that is diabetic. I'm curious as to what type of medical condition, medication or injections that might generate this type of symptom. I could not find anything like it on Google searches...

My girlfriend just broke her arm a few inches above the elbow (spiral fracture). She's currently in a splint and will possibly get a plate and pins in a few days. She works at a desk job, which she will return to after a week or two of rest. What can we do to make life easier (tips, special equipment, etc)?
Followup to this and this: I need surgery on my elbow to move the ulnar nerve, which is getting trapped by heterotopic ossification (extra bone inside the elbow arising from an old fracture.) Here's the wrinkle: there are two different surgeries I could have, and I have to choose which one I want -- today. [more inside]

Why does this trick work? Turn your palm face up. To turn your palm face down you must twist your wrist, right? But if you do six simple moves you can turn your palm face down without twisting your wrist. The trick appears at the beginning of this talk by Lennart Green but can also be done backwards.

I broke my humerus and now have a great big cast. I am concerned about the fact that I can feel some movement at times. Specifically, if I try to rotate my elbow (not the curl/uncurl motion, but side-to-side), I feel like the arm moves but in reality it doesn't (observably move). That makes me worry that the bones may be moving ... in which case how can they heal together? Also, do the cast covers for showering work? [more inside]

I am wondering why my right arm randomly goes numb for no reason at all. I don't lift anything heavy or anything of that sort, so what could it possibly be? Some of my friends seem to think these are early signs of a possible stroke or a heart attack but I can't really buy that since I am 22 years old, fairly relaxed with a normal amount of a stress than any college student would have. I also take no medications, I live a fairly normal lifestyle.
MutantFilter: For as long as I can remember, I've had what I thought was a muscle missing in my upper right arm. I've never seen anyone else with this, nor have I been able to figure out if that's it for sure. Anyone who knows something about anatomy want to take a look at this? (Pictures included.) A few weeks ago while playfully wrestling around at a family gathering, I was basically tackled and a knee landed on my arm, pinning it to the ground. I did not have blinding pain or anything, but for a few days after that my arm and shoulder were pretty sore, and I've had trouble reaching behind my upper back with that arm. If it seems like it's getting a little better with time (though I'm still having trouble reaching around with it to my upper back), do I need to see a doctor or will it just get better on its own?
