River cruises and the little-known in Chicago.

I'm looking for a gift for some new Chicagoans and think they would enjoy one of the river architecture tours. Is there any appreciable difference between the competing operators? I'm from Chicagoland. Me and my Canadian gal are soon moving from Toronto to the City of Big Shoulders so she can go to grad school there, and she's been asking me all kinds of questions about the character of the city. I love meticulous documentation of the environment.

So, I love Chicago mile-by-mile and the Stanford cityblock project. Lately I've been looking for other examples of this sort of meticulous documentation of the environment. Anyone got any leads? [more inside]
