Weird Google Groups and/or Gmail issue. I sent a message to a Google-hosted mailing list I am on, from a Google Apps e-mail address, and received a couple of unlikely e-mails in response…from myself.

My New Yorker Ipad app is crashing and closing within 20 seconds of opening an issue. I wrote new yorker tech support and they sent these instructions but they don't work:
Please try resetting your app using the following instructions.
1. From the iPad home screen, tap twice on the home button and the apps
that are running on your device will appear along the bottom row.
2. Hold down the icons until they "shake".
3. Tap on the red circle to reset your application. This does not delete
the app.
4. Double tap the home button again to return to all of your apps.
5. Open the app and allow for your library to update. All of your issues
should now be available for download.
I think they addressed the wrong problem. I've rewrote them but because of the holiday there is no reply. Any suggestions of what to try next? I'd like to be able to read what I've paid for

What apps would a 50-year old Chinese or Vietnamese person have on their iPad?
I'm thinking of getting my parents iPads, since I've really enjoyed mine, think that it'd be simple enough for them to use, and easy enough to do technical support for. They aren't that technically savvy and don't speak English well so I'd like to get them started first on some easy to use apps where they could get content such as foreign news, music, and television shows.

When someone makes an Android/iPhone app that scans a food product's bar code and returns nutrition information on that food from a database, who made that database? I can see Weight Watchers doing their own, but surely not everybody reinvents the wheel on this every time somebody makes an app that does something similar. Does anyone sell access to such a database? If so, who is that?

app filter -- I am finally getting on the smartphone wagon, and it will be a droid (probably a used G1 if that matters). Lots and lots of my job involves talking on the phone. I want an app that will automatically time my outgoing and incoming phone calls by contact and/or by info that I type in. I want to transfer that information on a monthly basis to my computer, to sync that information with my billing program.

What's a decent iPhone app for downloading/listening to podcasts? I'm trying to avoid syncing it to iTunes every time I want to get new podcasts, so I'd like to use this app to subscribe to one and let me know when new episodes are available (that's the important part), listen to them, and delete them. Dementia and the iPad: I've just purchased an iPad for my parents. My mother will take to it instantly, but my father has fairly advanced dementia. I want to load the device with apps he may find engaging. Research has revealed a few lists, but I'd love some suggestions based on actual experience.
